Side note think of how different this team would be if the trade for Kessel went down with Minnesota (JJ and Kessel going for Zucker and Rask). - 123Kid
Would have been (frank)ing nice. Does Rask still suck? Can't be worse than JJ, right? |

Watching the Caps for the first time in this... Totally forgot that they had Kovalchuck.... Right handed... Sniper... Big powerful forward.. Still decent skating... PP powerhouse... right handed PP powerhouse! ... friend of Genos.. hungry for a cup.
JR didn't want him. Traded for Marleau. |

There were a lot of people on this sub that didn’t want him and I didn’t know why. Literally exactly what we needed. Right shot for the PP who was on the cheap. And turns out on a good team he was still serviceable at 5v5 too. |

Yeah I never understood that? It would have been a great pick up. What did they get him for? Speaking of The crapitals. Ovechkin has been very quiet on score sheet so far. Rumours has it he can't get his PED's in the bubble |

I was pretty much salivating for him. When Jake went down it was the final piece we couldn't overcome. Hard to replace his production, more so goal scoring, on top of who else was injured. That's when we really started to slide, after he F'd his shoulder. I thought Kovy could take Phil's old spot on PP and maybe get back some of the lost PP and Jakey production. Some of it. Kovy just made too much sense hahah. I remember either Elliott or Bob tweet reporting the Pens weren't interested in him. It was deflating... And I can't help but think Sullivan was a big factor in this. |

We need: top 6 RW, 3C, and to dump Johnson.
We have: 15th overall, Matt Murray, Jared McCann, and Hallander. Possibly Hornqvist.
It's possible we can pull off some really savvy one for one trades with Murr, McCann, and Horny that will let us keep that pick, but if Poulin and POJ really are near untouchable, we're pretty much guaranteed to have to move that 1st to accomplish our goals. |

Could be, but that's better than giving it to Minny. |

Rask would have probably been a good 3rd line center at the very least (allowing McCann to play wing) or he would have been traded for another piece at the deadline.
I did always wonder about how we would have been if we traded for Kovalchuk. Even a trade for (I know it is a sore subject) Evander Kane who went for almost nothing as well. Yet somehow JR wasn't interested. We would have easily walked into another Stanley cup or 2 with Kane and Kovalchuk as our additional wingers.
Both players play hungry during the playoffs. Those are the players we need. Not the ones who believe they can coast through games and the NHL will just hand them the cup. |

It would be nice if we could sign Toffoli, move Murr for a couple picks, and maybe get a 3c using Horny? Some (frank)ing how trade JJ. Someone mentioned Soderberg, I'm watching for him now to see how he looks, hes older than I thought. But this is a fast team he's playing so it's a good test. |

Soderberg was already pretty old the offseason I wanted to sign him after his contract with the Bruins came up and we signed Fehr and traded for Bonino instead. I feel like he's ancient now. If he's still preforming, he's still preforming, but I feel like he could break down any day at this point. Also, doesn't make us faster at all. |

We should have straight up signed Kovy, a lot of teams let him slip by including the Caps who eventually traded for him. Oh well haha. Anyways, Rask could have made that third line much better, I agree. |

Definitely should check some better options then. I guess if the Avs didn't want to keep him why would we want him? |

Well, he's the only pending FA C who's worth a damn, so we wouldn't have to give up anything to get him. But I'm open to suggestions for a different 3C. |

Could be a lot of reasons like they have a good young center they want to play there, cap constraints, etc. |

True, true. Maybe we could use Horny to trade for a 3c, I'd have to look around though. It would kinda suck having Soderberg at 34-35 and Horny around 33-34 on the same line. Edmonton was talking of getting a goalie trade going, maybe send Murr that way and work Horny somewhere for a 3c. Possible to have Poulin and McCann be the wings on the third line. Idk it's hard to make moves haha |
