A terrible decision to keep playing hutton

I was rooting for johansson big time, he had his moments albeit short. Maybe he should have gotten a bigger look. At that point in time they had nothing to lose

- ieetbred

Might be playing today if they called up Hammond instead. A Zamboni driver won as many games as JJ.

"I'd be shocked if Jake Sanderson isn't selected top 10 in the draft," NTDP U-18 coach Seth Appert said. "He plays the game so efficiently, defends so hard and can jump into the play and add offense ... he's the prototypical modern-age defenseman. I know other defensemen get more notoriety because of the points they put up, but the beauty of Jake Sanderson is the more you watch him, the more you start to appreciate what an unbelievable defender he is."
NTDP associate coach Nick Fohr oversees the defensemen, and in his nine seasons with the program has worked with several players currently competing in the NHL, including Seth Jones (Columbus Blue Jackets), Zach Werenski (Blue Jackets), Noah Hanifin (Calgary Flames) and Charlie McAvoy (Boston Bruins). He believes Sanderson ranks among that elite group.

Interesting and something I thought of watching nashville get bounced with saros

I know it means nothing now but the year carey price came out of junior he played 2 games in the A to the tune of a .949% and then went on to lead his team to the calder cup

6K came out of junior hot, played 1 game for the amerks at a .941% and was then promptly sat in favor of career AHL goalies and watched as the amerks got bounced in the 1st round with some ridiculously sub .900 goaltending if i recall correctly

- ieetbred

Only fair to point out that he had surgery right after that.

The upside isn’t bad ...... mitts is the biggest wildcard. It makes literally no sense why he hasn’t progressed.

This team needs a decent player that has been through war in the playoffs to show what heart and dedication it really takes to get there.

How difficult is it to be in top shape when it's your livelihood? And if you don't care enough to be in top shape, how much does that say about your desire to be the best you can be?

they won 21 of the last 57 games

that's not good coaching, motivating or whatever you want to call it

- homiedclown
well, in that timeframe, they had several starts and then stops....Ralph was able to get them to clear their head after several losses...rarher than running a string of 15 in a row. I give him cresit for pulling 21 heads out of 21 asses many times

I don’t think there really is anything wrong with Sanderson the prospect.

We just need a forward at this point.

Raymond apparently looked really good the other day. Playing a top 6 role in Frolunda and PP1.

I’d be shocked if he gets by Ottawa at 5.

Ottawa can realistically walk out of this draft class with Byfield and Raymond.

That would not be good for us.

I think everyone would want to be in the playoffs if everything were equal.
But it isn't equal, and the Sabres are not a 1G and a tweak away .

You say the right mix of supporting cast. Agree there as well.
But I'd guess we disagree on the details

From pure numbers perspective, the roster needs:
2C, 2RW, 3C, 1stRhD, 2ndLhD assuming Cozens starts at 3RW.
So with Cozens, that is 6 positions excluding 4RW and 4C when the Larry's walk

Yet, numbers alone isn't the solution. The right mix includes a transfusion of heart, compete and leadership. Jack is fine as a young C finding his way as a leader of men and learning from Ralph.
Besides that, the team was filled with mentally fragile players who wilted at the first sign of adversity. They need several players who have the backbone to push back hard, who challenge their teammates, who will jump into a scrum with moxy. They have an alarming absence of it.

Since you are watching the playoffs, evaluate if you honestly expect the Sabres to compete well in this tourney. The honest answer is the roster is miles away.

I couldn’t disagree more. I’ve always thought when Kadri became available the Sabres should have made a deal that would have brought him to fill their biggest need, a 2c. He has grit, can play both offence and defence and would have been Skinners main man.
Without a doubt if Kadri were on the team today we would be watching playoff hockey.
That’s how close I think they are. It’s total BS to blame goaltending more than secondary scoring. Watching the playoffs now there is some good and bad goaltending from these playoff teams but the teams that are hanging in there have at least 2 or 3 lines that can supply offence.
The Sabres relied way too much on one line scoring and it wasn’t a secret to smother that and they were done.
