Yes, when botts was hired. He brought over some pens front office guys.

The problem isn’t the firing of half the staff...... it’s a matter of not replacing them.

Great game between the Blues and Canucks ... and God damn does Vancouver have a lot of GREAT young talent. I don't see how they can ever lose. It'll probably be hard to keep that much young talent around though ... they're all going to want a HUGE paycheck.

Aren't many who might be worth a damn still under contract? Should they bring in bodies just to make hockeybuzz guys breathe easier?

Good question ..... I am not really sure. Like Taylor’s contract expired. So who else’s contract also expired?

I got nothing for that, but I'm sure he is making a pretty penny too so if they were only cutting people because of what they make there goes that argument.

But aren't scouts' contracts probably until after the draft? I would think so, they wouldn't expire before. Pro scouts might be active until sometime after FA starts.

I would think they're just like everyone else and expire as soon as the new league year starts.

I agree its been awful, no denying it

Im just pointing out for anyone who is sick of the losing but not enraged by the sabres laying down when they agreed to the format despite their circumstance with montreal is (frank)ed

The upside to me is playing in the playoffs, having a good time being a fan and the chance at winning the ultimate prize. Its fun, and i love hockey and its more fun with my favorite team involved

People here and elsewhere want to trade eichel because they think a bunch of unknowns, picks, and prospects is more likely to win the cup in 5 years than just finding some goaltending and the right mix of supporting cast

Also (frank)ed

I think everyone would want to be in the playoffs if everything were equal.
But it isn't equal, and the Sabres are not a 1G and a tweak away .

You say the right mix of supporting cast. Agree there as well.
But I'd guess we disagree on the details

From pure numbers perspective, the roster needs:
2C, 2RW, 3C, 1stRhD, 2ndLhD assuming Cozens starts at 3RW.
So with Cozens, that is 6 positions excluding 4RW and 4C when the Larry's walk

Yet, numbers alone isn't the solution. The right mix includes a transfusion of heart, compete and leadership. Jack is fine as a young C finding his way as a leader of men and learning from Ralph.
Besides that, the team was filled with mentally fragile players who wilted at the first sign of adversity. They need several players who have the backbone to push back hard, who challenge their teammates, who will jump into a scrum with moxy. They have an alarming absence of it.

Since you are watching the playoffs, evaluate if you honestly expect the Sabres to compete well in this tourney. The honest answer is the roster is miles away.

We don't know, do we?
We can assume that they made the right decision in retaining who they did.

They should benchmark themselves against the best-in-class...what do the best ~5 teams in terms of trades and drafts have structurally, how do they operate, and evaluate talent.
Did they do that, or did they look at travel schedules to determine who wasn't delivering value and slash away? From the articles written, it seems like the latter.

They might have even brought in a guy as a consultant who had recent experience in transitioning another NHL Team to the type of scouting methodology and analytics-based player evaluation they wish to employ...you know, to shorten the learning cycle and eliminate a few bumps in the road. It's called good business practices.

But hey, I guess one could see how going it alone locked in a buttressed fort would work out.

Do you agree with the sabres laying down for montreal to get into the play in?

Did they play that night in Montreal?
Did they vote in the affirmative for the 24 team format?

And they have been missing that for... YEARS!

The question now because some will take “heart and Moxie” for “face punchers”. Who fits that mold... what players that may be available fit “heart and moxie”.

I’ll start with ...

2c - Domi
3c - Bennett
2/3c - bonino, more clutch like.
2c - Cerelli, he’s a bit feisty

I would think a Maroon or Smith would help show these young kids what it takes. The bad thing is the Sabres don't really know what they have in the pipeline cause most aren't even here yet.

Let's face it, plugging $5.4 on the 3rd pairing is just as bad as having Okpodo at $6m on 4RW.
It doesn't improve dramatically when you plug in Montour at ~$4m either.
Pushing Joker into 1RhD is akin to puting Mitts at 2C. Just let him develop more at 2RhD, which pushes Joker and Miller down making Montour and Rist redundant and trade chips if you are talking about building a roster properly rather than merely trying to win an argument. You are better than this!

Cozens and Kahun should be playing 3rd line, unless they want to continue to propagate the plug a player in 1 level higher than their optimal capability. Again, building the roster properly. Next season, Cozens could be ready for 2nd line, or not just that soon. (I too have high Hope's for him, but would prefer to play it safe and long play it).

6 it is.
