Bill posted that tidbit that Canadiens are among the best in generating high danger (HD)scoring chances and in expected goal differential.

I did some some digging. Not only are they what Bill mentioned, but they actually are also among the best in getting shots off from those HD areas. Likewise, they are among the best in generating medium danger (MD) scoring chances, and also in getting shots off from the MD areas. In all these categories, they are better than the Flyers.

However, when you look at actual goals scored from those two areas, Flyers are significantly better in each. This fact is confirmed when you look at some overall Stats. Flyers are 4th in converting goals from shots. Montreal is 25th. If you look at Actual Goals for versus Expected Goals for (the latter subtracted from the former) in 5-0n-5 play, the Flyers are about +13, the Canadiens are -18.

This likely means Montreal is not a perimeter team. They will go to the net. But they likely lack play-makers who can create open chances for their teammates, or they lack snipers, or both.

Where do the Flyers rank in converting goals from something other than shots?

How about medium to low danger chances. Or unexpected goals?

Could any of you guys come and pick up bruceflyers in the Habs thread? His attempts at trolling are pretty pathetic to say the least...

I can answer that easily.

Look carefully at the expression below:

Now as you know, V = shots in high danger areas, m = Giroux's positioning on polar coordinates, and t is the positioning of the overhead Spycam.

A smart guy like you, well known here for your love of analytical reasoning, will easily be able to discern that the above simplifies to:

I am writing the next step but I know you will already have done this in your head.

And of course, there lies the answer. I am too respectful of your intellect to spell it out. I never would insult you like that. I just know you will solve this in your head and write down the answer for us.

Caps losing by two to a lower seed

Boston needs two OT’s to beat a lower seed

Tampa needs two days to beat a lower A lower seed

Okay Flyers, we need to win pretty convincingly. The bar isn’t very high right now.

We are 4-0-1 against the Caps and 0-2-1 against the Isles. Tampa will beat CBJ in 5/6. If so, we would play the Isles after Habs if Isles advance.

If Boston beat the Canes, and Caps advance instead, then we play Caps.

So, I would cheer for Caps as a Flyers fan.

Maybe our game will almost start on time. Hopefully they push it back a half hour to let the ice heal.

Just saw the hit on Backstrom.

I think if you start a fight over a clean hit you should be ejected.

Refs can barely call clean vs dirty hits right, pretty tough reacting in the moment and defending oneself or a teammate to make that call accurate every time
