Mac is the better player right now. Matthews is significantly better after his first 4 seasons than what Mac was after his first 4 seasons.


Mac’s 4th season: 53 points in 82 games
Matthews’ 4th season: 47 goals in 70 games.



McDavid dunks on them both, even if one were to stand on the other’s shoulders.

MacKinnon is incredible and right now I'd put him above Matthews. Don't think it'll stay that way for long going forward, though.

If this season continued, he'd have eclipsed 50 goals easy. Hell, had he not gotten hurt in 2 seasons, he'd have 4 straight 40 goal seasons to start his career. That's pretty incredible, too. Especially since he's an animal at scoring even strength goals.

He also stepped his two-way game up greatly this past season.

Getting diagnosed was the best thing that ever happened to my kid. He sorted out how he had to organize his work to keep his mind organized and work harder than his classmates. He sure didn’t get those traits from me.

Cap savings to be better distributed.
The rebuild was already looking great.
Marner’s contract would’ve been less imo.
Fan expectations wouldn’t have been teased as much.
Kadri may still be a Leaf & nothing wrong with that.
-Barrie wouldn’t be a rental & kids more NHL development time.
It wasn’t broke & really didn’t really need JT.

I always lean towards an elite C or stud D man. Cannot go wrong.

If we can ever land or develop a top RHD we are set to contend.
