And you think the alumni from the 93 team doesn't feel burned?
How about against the most heavily penalized team not taking any penalties?
You think that Leaf team didn't feel burned, oh wait that was three teams.
Yeah the refs call it the same and the league doles out the suspensions likewise.

Certainly you can recognize the difference between that and what Kadri did.

Punching a guy after the whistle, that you've had a dispute with, when hes looking at you and can defend himself happens 50 times a game.

Blindsiding a guy, hitting him in the head, given what we know about head injuries, is a suspendable offense

Not to say there's a conspiracy, but the idea that the preferred team for revenue would be the Leafs might not be the case. Consider LA. At that time it was far more important for the league to establish a history for the Kings and Gretz in southern Cal than the Leafs making more money. Same goes for Carolina. Bettmen's priority has been to get as much money into markets that need it to survive than he has prioritized big markets. 2004 Lighting lost in game 6, but still won. Again, I'm not saying they did this on purpose but the Leafs are solid money makers, they would like other clubs to become that I'm sure.

What he did was a lot less than what Chara did to Boreshevski.

Lucic, Domi and many others have been suspended for punching faces in the head shot prevention era. In fact in both those cases they were looking straight at the player. In JT's case he was facing the other way and Chara uppercutted him.

yup - like the problem that Dubas 'knows' Ceci is actually much better than the rest of the world thinks - and he's going to prove if with 'internal data'.
what a joke of a GM

- MaximusAurelius

well he is not going to trash ceci or himself, and the data available does suggest what he is saying....he does ok in some areas...but cant compensate or contribute nearly enough in lots of other areas..he suck offensivley..like really bad

anyways, ill wait to see what he does ...again if Ceci ever plays for the leafs again...ill lose it

This is actually fun to read through.
seems like everyone loved the trade except Archaic.

- Fakepartofme

here's a few randomly selected "GEMS" from day after the trade last year... so much for the theory about another year older... you really can't make this sh_t up...
Barrie as top 2 defenseman... literally every stat indicated that Barrie can't defend... and what is Dubas known for... stats?analytics?

They might be thinking Sandin takes the place of Barrie next year. If he can it would sure free up alot of cash.
- shack67

Sandin isn’t replacing Barrie next year.....

Sandin is a LD.

RD in terms of value to the Leafs it’s Barrie, Liljegren, Ceci, Holl.....

If there’s a player the Leafs can resign it should be Barrie all day.

"Santo-44" - still think they should resign #1 d-man Barrie all day?

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

They got worse defensively. Barrie is not close to Reilly in his own end. Reilly is above average defensively while Barrie is near the bottom of the league. Muzzin can only make up for so many of Ceci's mistakes and although Dermott is a good up and comer he isn't ringing any bells yet. Who is going to kill penalties?

What do I want? A Stanley Cup.

All this celebrating getting under the cap actually shows just how easily this fan base can be sucked in.
- aminnes

"Santo-44" - laughing at a completely reasonable opinion the Leafs defense. I guess if the Leafs won the Cup this year... Dubas would look like a genius. Keep celebrating getting under the cap.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Strategy. Dump it into Barrie or Ceci's corner, and hammer them and then when you get possession they won;t be able to get it back. Boston will have no issues implementing this. They need better defenders to go deep.
- aminnes

Completely false.

Barrie and Rielly are phenomenal at getting the puck out quick.

You are something else.

"Santo-44"... I agree Rielly is pretty good at getting the puck out quick.. Not sure about that other guy. So Santotard is batting 1000 a being completely ass backwards wrong - to absolutely no ones surprise.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Barrie is literally Gardiner in his own end. The best thing that happened for Reilly's career was to get the hell away from Gardiner. Barrie is a great PP guy, and a guy I like having but he needs to play with a total homer and cannot face other teams top lines.

So then the question is, who faces the top lines? Ceci? Poor Muzzin on that one. Who is killing penalties? Ottawa tried that with Ceci. Huge pressure on Reilly now to save the day defensively.
- aminnes

I can’t

Once again - you guessed it "Santo-44"... mocking Aminnes completely accurate forecast. Congrats Santo... still batting 1000

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As I said - and it's nice to see a brain rather than name calling - the trade in principle is good. However if they don;'t get more defensive type help what was the point. It becomes lateral at that point.
- aminnes

Between the two of them, Barrie is a much more effective transition player and brings even more offensive prowess than Gardiner. But for those fans who grew frustrated with Gardiner’s decision making in the defensive zone and risky play with the puck, buckle in because Barrie is about to take you on a wild ride. Gardiner’s defensive impact has been much stronger than Barrie’s over the past few seasons, and in fact Barrie’s defensive impact is around the 44th percentile in the NHL, while Gardiner’s is 56th, so that part is a downgrade.

https://www.sportsnet.ca/...etter-team-trading-kadri/

someone posted what TSN said about the "stats"... that Gardiner is quite a bit better defensively than Barrie... soooooooooooo... we'll just let you injest that for a bit

---------------------

and before you attempt reverse troll about me spending my lunch glancing back through last year's drivel... I'm and exec at health insurance provider in the US.. and simply decided I'd take it easy this afternoon.

so thanks for the invite to go do that - you are a beauty Santo-44 - this provided a nice fun distraction amidst these weird days.

always hilarious to have your opinion supported - that indeed half the population (or more) are morons.

He also sucks defensively. Definitively. I don't know what numbers they are using, but those numbers are wrong.

Marty is an interesting one. I think it goes back to the war between data and subjective scouting [in that] he seems to be a very polarizing player. Even when everything underlying about him has been relatively solid, especially when you consider his usage [as a bottom-pairing defenceman who averages 16:19 of ice time per game], it seems to be every tiny thing that he does becomes a referendum on whether he's good or not, which is mind-boggling to me. Every defenceman that plays that much and plays in that role is going to [make] mistakes. I think he's been a good addition for us and has played above expectations from when we acquired him and we’re very happy with him.

neither do I... someone embedded a link.

I do find it hilarious how much some people are truly "fan-boys". The love for Dubas is starting to rival the devotion that certain portion of the US population jizzes for Drumpf... and there again is the cognitive limitation thing.
