Got him a giant contract, and another GM will be fired because of it.

Not sure why everyone is forgetting Karlsson was pre-injury and playing 30 minutes of Hart level two-way defense at the time...
- AdamFrench

Karlsson was the best player in the league, pre-achilles slicing by Matt Cooke imo deliberate. After his recovery he was still one of the top 2-3 players in the league. it was all downhill after the trade.

Still trying to figure how Kappy played so poorly against the Jackets. Especially when he seemed to turn the corner with the rough stuff late season.

Radko? flyers like his style of play, that's how they keep up with heavy teams.
Wayne Simmons? he's getting too old.
Erik Haula? what's he do?
Tanev probably gets resigned.
Matt Murray? why would he target him?

- MisterBrown

Radko:4/5 D that is a player that will get squeezed out of the usual 2-3 million contract he gets due to flat cap. 1-2 year 1-1.5 million

Simmonds: 1 year 1 million, no risk high reward. Ala Spezza

Erik Haula: injury may have slowed his career down, might have to settle for 1-2 year contract at a low cap hit to show he’s still a good 3C. Perfect target for the Leafs, especially if they trade 2/3 of Kap, Kerfoot and AJ

Matt Murray:younger than Freddy, talented goalie.

Tanev: is he? I don’t see any contract offer from the Nucks. He’s a FA in 2 months as we sit today

That one playoff run he did. I got to go to some of the games live, he was on another planet. Never hit that level again. He was like Scotty Nieds in his prime.

here is the start of the Kadri/Barrie trade if anyone wants to re-visit what they initally thought

https://www.hockeybuzz.co...?thread_id=160665&page=41

I liked the Barrie trade, and liked the NZ/Ceci deal...but assumed Dubas was just dumping Ceci..

I didnt like that he signed and played him

- senstroll

so it's gardiner for barrie.
makes sense because barrie is rhd - players are same mold (good offensively, bad defensively).
ceci for zaitsev - downsgrade if ceci plays.
get rid of brown and kadri - get kerfoot ; needed to get additional capspace for marner and leafs got depth to replace brown.
would rather have a #3c that can kill penalties and is more of a 2way player - maybe leafs can use kerfoot in a trade for a different c..

all by all the moves clear up capspace but dont necessarily make leafs a better team.
decent moves but i find it hard to understand the euphoria after these sideways moves

this guy got it right again

Because he's never been good a defense? I agree he was playing good hockey, though. They should've lost every series really but Anderson was incredible.

Actually, that one playoff series against Montreal (don't remember the year) I thought he was excellent. Karlsson, I mean. He was hitting guys and everything.

C'mon, they were set up to fail. Do they even get into a groove after 15 days of pre season and 15 games of hockey?
This is why I say the NHL is a garbage league, from the reffing down to 3 teams in a playoff spot not making the playoffs.

Radko gets re-upped by flyers
Simmonds - yeah i suppose its low risk
Haula - i think he'll be a disappointment. he was invisible in the qualifier
Murray - ask the penguin fans about him. they wanted Jarry. i think murray is done like Ward was done in carolina after the cup win...
Tanev- you are correct, but i don't see him leaving the nux. i think they'll work something out... he'll retire a canuck. he's to valuable to them as a mentor for the younger guys.

It’s why I don’t get why Tkchuk wasn’t suspended for lifting his skate up on Schiflie...dangerous unneeded play.

We need to protect the stars of the game, having Karlsonn at his best was great for hockey. No one in the NHL was like him.

Guys I see Dubas targeting. I think it’s obvious the Leafs need a player or two like this...Clifford is great and all, nice addition but they need a few that can actually play...and they don’t have to be nearly as big or as tough as Clifford.

- Santo_44

Haula is fantastic. The guy is a winner.

that barrie trade thread is gold

I know - with Shestyorkin coming over, Georgiev might be the odd man out.
A 3rd + Bracco for Georgiev would be a good deal for Leafs.

Radko plays for the caps not flyers...and has been a healthy scratch in the playoffs.

Haula: that’s the whole point, cheap contract in hopes he can get back the the level where he can be

Murray: he’s 25, goalies go through ups and downs...I’ll gladly buy low thank you very much

Tanev:maybe, we’ll see

Agree. Tkachuk had no reason to lift the skate like that. same as matt cooke, just a better player though.

Schiefele was their best player and he got taken out with a skate to the achilles/ calf...

Murray is interesting. Tough to tell whether he'd be an upgrade or not. The ultimate gamble. Could turn out to save Dubas job, could just as easily cost him it.
