The next level of insight is to qualify that hindsight. Why did Dubas (and most others) believe Barrie would be an upgrade on D and yet he was an utter failure? The mistake wasn't necessarily the trade ..it was the result. How the (frank) did this guy go from being a marketable 7-8 Milly per year d'man to being a PP specialist that couldn't play on one of the leagues best PP's? That's the analysis that goes on amongst the real decision makers.

It's not as simple as "it didn't work out so lets fire everyone".

I think he had to pay him a certain amount to play..cuz of the min offer thingy
also, I think the leafs needed to get to a certain cap #, in order to be able to put players on LTIR..to fit the fat MM/AM contracts

nobody cares if he plays his butthole off every night. the guy needs to produce. lots of guys play their bumholes off every night but they don't eat up a huge chunk of cap space after holding the team over a barrel...

the public data also doesnt show he wasnt trash...there is always going to be those players who clash with the eye test vs stats.

trying to understand why/where that difference lies is interesting.

I am perfectly fine saying his stats are not terrible..but average'ish and never seeing him again.
