acquring Gostisbehere is essentially acquiring Barrie all over again.

not what the Leafs need - although I think he's about 5'10" - so Dubas would love him.

exactly. He fits the spectacled ones vision

My only nuance on that take is that "in hindsight" I think he'd have rather walked from Ceci if he could have. Start the year with marincin or find another filler like him. The cap space could have been helpful during the year. Add a bigger piece during the year. Capspace = more options.

I'm not arguing it was a bad decision at the time ...although it was questioned heavily (the signing not the trade) ...I'm only saying in terms of looking back he'd probably rather have not signed him.

And again most of us were very positive about the Barrie acquisition at the time. Now, we'd rather have that one back too.

Holl wasn’t an NHLer at this time.

You can’t go into the season HEALTHY with 2 D men that aren’t NHLers. If one or two go down in pre season? You have 3 or 4 borderline NHLers. The start of the season is so important as we learned this season...zero chance Dubas would go into the season without signing Ceci or another legit NHLer.

Its a tough crowd here. Theyre tough on people with realistic views. But I guess most homers are.

im just reading through the Kadri/Barrie thread now.

its just annoying when the hindsight junkies come in to provide an update on the (frank) ups.

first own up to your initial thoughts...then trash everything

- senstroll

Yup, Borje doesn’t own up to it.

Oh well, saw that coming.

Brind'amour to refs after the Canes immediately respond with a goal:

"(frank) you. That's what you get."

ya i know.
But i never want to holl in the top 4. Ever.
I don't care how many D are injured.
Holl should never be on the ice in the late stages of a game when we are down.

- Fakepartofme

agreed... that was kinda of might point - when discussing the defense earlier.

Holl had to play those minutes because the other idiots were so utterly useless.

It would be really interesting (we'll never know of course) what Rielly felt like playing with Ceci.... more or less a season of being fed crap has to take a toll on a guy

I liked the Barrie trade, and liked the NZ/Ceci deal...but assumed Dubas was just dumping Ceci..

I didnt like that he signed and played him

oh please... I believe I thought at the time of the trade that it was a good risk to take... I don't believe I would have ever describe it as a great trade.. I never wanted to trade kadri in the first place.

but I didn't assume that the Barrie would actually be unable to defend AT ALL.

so fast forward to later the summer 2019... and Babcock is fed a shyte sandwich which is... here's your top6 for the coming season.

and again, it wasn't me making the decision on the Kadri trade, the Zaitsev trade. That was Dubas. Dubas fed Babcock the turd.

Dubas judgement was poor - not on the trades - but on what he was getting in the trades.

that would be end.

I thought the Barrie trade was a good one at the time and still defended it for cap reasons a few weeks ago.
It didnt work out because Barrie didnt pull his weight.

AM: “we don’t care how other people think how we played...”

Gee, perhaps you should care about how paying customers think? I guess if anyone is going to say it, it might as well be AM because he played well but a bit arrogant and entitled?

There has been little progress last 4 years. That is the worst part. ‘We are still young’ started to sound a little stale at this point

Wrong. Scandella was traded in 2017 with other cap dumps.

Scandella was on the Sabres for 3 years before being traded to the Habs in January of this year.

You can't see the reasoning behind the signing, I have explained it and proved you wrong on your "Scandella" trade. There was no one available so he signed Ceci after free agency.

- Santo_44

He had to sign Ceci, Ottawa gave him a qualifier.
