I missed the part where I was anything other than amused by your lack of a sense of humor .

But that's the least important opinion. The rest of us are all enjoying him calling out the obvious and triggering you into tears, Garf.

Conner Brown was making too much to be a 4th liner on the Leafs. I've always liked him and still do but that's the truth. And Ottawa needed something if they were gonna take on Zaitsev's awful contract.

Ceci DID replace Zaitsev. As garbage as Ceci is, Zaitsev is worse. Added on to a contract 6 times longer.

Was their hope that Ceci could be better on a much better team? Of course. They already saw what Zaitsev could do on the Leafs and it wasn't good. So take the unknown and hope for better, but if it's still not any good, at least it's only for one singular season, instead of 6.

Getting out of Zaitsev's contract is, in and of itself, a huge win. This is an undeniable fact.

- GreatGigInTheSky

getting out of Zaitsev's contract was definitely a win - on September 15th of 2019 - but that was end of it.

Ceci was a waste of food... and an abmissal failure by Dubas. Bad judgement, bad risk that didn't pay off ON THE ICE

Barrie, same situation - great potential on paper - Bad Judgement, bad risk that absolutely didn't pay off ON THE ICE

Bad on Dubas, bad judgement by Dubas, bad construction/deconstruction of the defense.

DD is a contract you stay a million miles away from....dont want for a 7th
- senstroll

Agreed. Just looked at it. Ugh.

Looks as ugly as Karlsson's contract, except LA got some value out of Doughty, SJ signed Karlsson when he was already in decline.

1)
Nylander + Kerfoot to Buffalo

Ristolainen + Thompson to Toronto

2) sign Zegmus as FA 1.2M x 3 years

3) Marner to Minnesota
Dumba + Greenway + 1st (2020) - Minny has 2

4) sign Edmundson(UFA) from Carolina

- BorjeFan4Ever

This isn't bad. We definitely need to move Risto. I like him but it just never worked. No way these two trade within the division. And with Skinner not going anywhere, Reinhart an underrated top 6 winger and Olaffson, we really have no use for Nylander. We need a quality 2C and a goalie.

The Minnesota idea is great. That trade makes a lot of sense.

Good work.

The old Legion of Doom Philly Flyers play from the mid 90s. Well they'd run over the goalie first.

(frank)ing insane. Clear and obvious goaltender interference.

Absolute Karma that they got that shorthanded goal.

I would drive Brown to Ottawa if it meant getting rid of Z's contract. Easy decision.
- Santo_44

agreed. but having to take on Ceci's contract was abhorent.

and then Dubas expecting Ceci to replace Zaitsev's minutes "effectively" was just plain bad judgement.

I'm not talking about the contract escape... or why Dubas had to escape the contract.

I'm talking about the defense that Dubas "constructed"... which I think we fairly describe as somewhere between "shambolic and what-da-phack"

No. That's a bad trade straight up for Nylander. Never mind the Leafs adding more.

Ristolainen is a bum and Tage is a nothing.

And Nylander has proven 4 years in a row that he has no interest in competing when the going gets tough.

Warts for warts.

on a talent for talent basis I completely agree.. I was more suggesting Nylander an Kerfoot because that kills about 10M off the CAP, and would address at least 1 RHD position for the Leafs. Thompson is absolutely a throw in.

Leafs eliminate 10M from CAP, and get a RHD who's at least capable of killing a penalty and to some degree clearing the front of the net... also think that Risto has been in the losing cesspool too long.. needs a reset. Unlike Ceci, there's some upside there.

If you think that Nylander and that contract are going to get you a defenseman better than Risto, well then we can agree to disagree.

What contract did Ceci come with exactly.

Pretty clear the plan was to use Ceci as a right handed stop gap, also known as a warm body.

I think last year's blueline was built with this year in mind. Hence the lack of long term anywhere. The feel I get was they came to the realization that permanent solutions weren't a viable option at that point.

I understand shedding CAP. And it makes sense.

But if that's all that Nylander would get, I think it'd be a waste of a great asset. Leafs would be a better team with him on it than Ristolainen on D and Tage with the Marlies.

And Kerfoot's contract isn't bad, so I see no reason why he couldn't be traded for picks or something.

I agree that Ceci is probably the wrong target to blame. The colossal mistake was Barrie. The whole league was concerned when the Leafs got that guy. What a collapse.

By absolute default he would because Ristolainen is (frank)ing garbage.

Nylanders contract is $6.9M. You're an even bigger fool than you're coming off as if you think it's a bad contract.
