Who is to blame and what needs to be done for the Leafs to avoid their annual, cataclysmic, embarrasing collapse in the playoffs for a FIFTH consecutive year.

1. Trade Nylander to NYR for the first pick and Shestyorkin. Freeing cap space.

2. Draft Laffy

2. Trade Marner to Columbus for Seth Jones, Josh Anderson,m and a 1st.

3. Trade Kapanen straight up for Doughty.

Done.

Not gonna happen. Absolutely no chance, ever.

Not ever gonna happen. Seth Jones for Marner one for one would be lopsided in favor the Leafs.

3. Trade Kapanen straight up for Doughty.

Not gonna happen. Kapanen might be a starter, but you'd have to add a lot more to get Doughty.

the additional mistake that you are probably forgetting was giving up Connor Brown to pay for that contract.. so why did he need to take Ceci back as well? and at 4.5. No I'm not buying it... Dubas felt Ceci could replace Zaitsev - not the contract issue - but from a hockey perspective. That's a massive failure in judgement

Dubas did exactly the same thing with Barrie. Massive failure in hockey judgement.

Team defense could never be good enough when you best RHD is Justin Holl.

Conner Brown was making too much to be a 4th liner on the Leafs. I've always liked him and still do but that's the truth. And Ottawa needed something if they were gonna take on Zaitsev's awful contract.

Ceci DID replace Zaitsev. As garbage as Ceci is, Zaitsev is worse. Added on to a contract 6 times longer.

Was their hope that Ceci could be better on a much better team? Of course. They already saw what Zaitsev could do on the Leafs and it wasn't good. So take the unknown and hope for better, but if it's still not any good, at least it's only for one singular season, instead of 6.

Getting out of Zaitsev's contract is, in and of itself, a huge win. This is an undeniable fact.

2) sign Zegmus as FA 1.2M x 3 years

3) Marner to Minnesota
Dumba + Greenway + 1st (2020) - Minny has 2

4) sign Edmundson(UFA) from Carolina

We're all waiting for you to succeed at something, Garf. 54 years. You're beating the current Leafs Cup drought. You should like that one. Of course they've also won the second most Cups of all time. Sabres have won... Oh well you know the rest! 👍

I would drive Brown to Ottawa if it meant getting rid of Z's contract. Easy decision.
