Dubas is already on the hot seat... simply because he did or tried to do exactly what you describe last summer....

and failed miserably - Barrie acquisition fail, Ceci acquisiton fail, having a boner for defenseman that can't defend and are too small to handle simple boxing out effectively.

This is the point I was making yesterday. I think there is a culture aspect to the trades they need to make. Close too many times. They need a shake up and they need to move a big piece. Marner is presumably a big piece of the culture. I have no idea about what he’s like but I’d look to change that aspect as well.

Like I have said, if the Leafs can sign Petro then you can afford to lose a Marner trade....If not you can't trade Marner and lose the trade. That is a step backwards based off a deal that was made out of frustration.

Dubas was trying to solve two problems - 1 was Lou's creation (Zaitsev's contract) and the second was Dubas creation (giving out over priced contracts to the collective boy wonders.

the judgement that Dubas made was that Ceci (who's pretty useless) could play at a level good enough to replace Zaitsev.

the on-ice defensive product that Dubas assembled - was (I'm being polite) inadequate... that is on Dubas.
