Motte is kind of an ideal 4th liner. Cheap, lots of energy, and he is the teams best statistical penalty killer.
- NorthNuck

I realize that.

When you are battling heavy teams or are in a playoff run he is less effective. I admire what he does but he is not going to have other teams looking out for him like a Reaves or a Wilson.

AS I said Canucks targeted Ferland to be that type of player and I hope we find that sort of guy for next year.

I wouldn’t trade 3 & 5 let alone adding.

Laffy is a 2LW on the Rags that’s deep.
Do they like that or trade down for more pieces? Yes I expect the usual trade down naysayers cuz every time I bring it up it’s 100% no. A top 6 C is the bigger need.

I found this interesting tidbit from Friedman:

It says a lot that the Canucks were able to beat Minnesota without a top-form Jacob Markstrom. I’m learning my way through ex-NHLer (and current Rangers’ broadcaster) Steve Valiquette’s excellent Clear Sight Analytics. Kevin Fiala’s Game 1 was the first “clear shot” goal Markstrom allowed all season. He faced more than 500 such chances, the only goalie in the league who was perfect against more than 200 such opportunities. He allowed another Game 5, which means he was beaten by shots that hadn’t eluded him all season. If I’m Vancouver, I’m betting Markstrom figures it out.

Well that's an interesting stat to hear.

Of course you could also spin it and say he's cracking under playoff pressure

I'd like another big body on the team as well, but I don't think Motte is the guy to replace. When your top guys aren't effective penalty killers a guy like him is pretty valuable. Why not replace Beagle? I know he PKs as well, but he's not nearly as good at it.

2 best on the PK is Motte & LE. Need a C that can keep up. Sutter gets my nod.

One of Sutter or Beagle need to go this off season. I think it will be Sutter as he holds a little more value.

To be honest the entire fourth line can be upgraded.

That will take some time. Motte is an RFA & was a fine on the 4th line. Sutter could be gone after next season unless traded. Beagle likely stays due to his contract length & won’t have much if any value. There isn’t a lot of choices.

Onto to game banter...

How do we play it against StL?
Speed game & bang the D is my choice.
Do we target someone to get under their skin? Who?

Your thoughts?

The goalie and Tarasenko. But it’s not like St. Louis can’t give it right back. The only thing that I can see really rattling the Blues is putting points on the board. If Boston couldn’t throw them off their game I doubt the Canucks can.

Yep, go after Binnington hard and try to get in his head. Best option imo as the Blues are too tough for Van to win the physical game.
