Apparently there's a verbal agreement not to trade Nylander. isn't Marner a better trade target? - MisterBrown

Got a mill over. What a terrible contract they have in San Jose. - bixll
When Karlsson's landing spot was still in question, there was speculation he might end up in Tampa. I was soooooo glad he didn't. That contract is an albatross and is going to look worse every year from here on out.

Double edged sword. GM's get fired letting 80+point/PPG defensemen walk. |

Rooomers abound that the Big10 is about to cancel the football season.
In probably related news, I can't get onto the ESPN website. |

Manson + Heinen for Nylander - MaximusAurelius
I like the idea of Manson, but Heinen - yuck.
Nylander, Johnsson
Manson, Rackell and 2nd.
but I would prefer to
Nylander Sandin to NJ
Severson, Woods/Faksa + Bahl(D)

I'd say the fans are on him more than the press is on him.
Apparently he was trending on Twitter yesterday - and like all things Twitter, it wasn't good.
It's the curse of playing for the Leafs - the pendulum swings like a franking jackhammer (I realize it's a horrible mixed metaphor, but I'm in a bad mood). - Atomic Wedgie
I never liked the Marner deal.
The Leafs did it because they wanted to keep a star winger, who wouldn’t?
Much of his contract is already paid off and if he’s made available teams will line up for that, especially budget teams.
And next season all but a handful of teams will
Be budget teams.

They're going to postpone it, try it in the spring if feasible. That's what I got from NFL radio on sirius on my way home a few minutes ago. |

There's a few of your reasons I don't agree with.. But I agree with the premise.
I don't think any of it is reasoning he should be fired because. 1.) No GM is likely to have a flawless record and pristine results 2 years into the job and 2.) That means starting fresh with someone new who is going to be needing his own couple year grace period to gear the team towards his own philosophy.
I'd even go as far as to say someone is a shortsighted dumbass if they think firing him is the best option and is going to result in what they think...
Best option is that dubas now has an adequate window on the job to have an understanding of what the team truly requires, and doesnt make any mistakes in executing those changes. - joel878
I specifically said I don't believe he should be fired - but he does need to shape the roster differently.
And yes I would agree that every GM makes mistakes. Dubas made about 6-7 moves this past season... most of those were not good, and the bigger the move generally the worse they were.
If he isn't on notice already - he should be.

how many 2020 1sts out of those 10?
(btw I guess you all saw the Leafs ball double bouncing out of that lottery machine last night before NYR ball got 'selected' ) |

Ok, so who do Toronto fans root for now? (on average)
Do you pull for a Canadian team like Calgary?
Do you pull for an underdog like Montreal?
Do you pull for Tampa because of Stamkos and his Ontario connection?
Or do you just say "phuck it" and get drunk and root for somebody based on other personal reasons? - GalacticStone

I don’t have a problem with the deal. He’s a star and got paid.
I’m starting to come around to the trade idea though for two reasons.
The first is style. He and Nylander and Kapanen play a flow game (Mike Johnson as talking about this yesterday) that the CBJ clogging up approach really slows down. You need more of a start and stop, almost station to station approach as part of your game. JT gives you that, Hyman gives that and so does Robertson even though he is small and fast. A Marner out, Robertson in even though it’s a big loss in capacity right now shifts the style and presumably brings a big upgrade on defence.
The second reason is character. I’m not saying anything about Marner’s character. I obviously don’t know anything about that except that his mom is a flossy thrash. But getting to the edge but not over has to say something about the team makeup and something has to change and a big piece has to change. Marner is a big piece.
You all know I’m right but will feel the need to argue anyway. It’s ok. I get it. |
