So how does that play out it Pietrangelo wants more money shorter term? Like say 3 x 10. He just may not want to be looking at longevity in such a strange market. - joel878
Because he legit said he wants a long term contract for his family and doesn't want to worry about moving after a few years.
He is getting a long term contract this fall. |

If Petro wants to sign here for 7 years at 9 million are we okay with losing a Marner trade? - Santo_44
Where did you here this?

I think its time the Leafs shakeup the team and get a D.
It has to come at the expense of one of the contracts over 10 million...and that won't be JT or AM. - Santo_44
A shake up is definitely needed. |

I’ll go Av’s for the Bozie, Nazie one-two. Other than that the Habs melt down inducing win would be fun. (Av’s also best team IMO) - Canada Cup
Bos vs Col would be ... interesting... |

Fair, but there's always the potential. An agent pitches more dollars if he signs a bridge and goes long term wants the cap is freeing up... Who knows...
I don't want him at that high of a cap hit personally. Same problems in different areas. |

Agreed.
I would trade Marner and Willie if the right deals came along. But Marner would be the one I'm actively looking to deal because contract. It's a poop cap hit for the leafs but marketable money for a tighter pocketed team. - joel878
If they can get Petro
NSH is desperate for elite forward talent.
Marner, AJ
Ardvidson, Bonino, 11th overall, 42nd overall
Aj and Bonino need to be added to make the cap work for NSH so they can resign their depth.
Hyman-AM-Nylander
Mikheyev-JT-Ardvidson
Robertson-Bonino-Kap
Kerfoot-Spezza-Barabanov
Poille is a bold GM too. |

I'd deal Willy, Kerfoot and Johnsson and keep Marner. But that's just me. Pietrangelo would solve alot of the Leafs defense issues.

My concern with that plan is you're moving more depth for elite talent. You'd be replacing those 3rd liners with guys making peanuts. |

I don't see it ..maybe, but I think at his age he's looking to max out his final prime negotiating status. 7 or 8 years at 9+ milly. |

you just mentioned that you just watch the leafs.
your nonsensical hockey takes ('trade marner!') now make more sense. |

lol ...I can live with that.
I'd be shocked to see MM traded. I still think he's got the makeup to be elite for a bunch of years plus I think his contract is tough to move - it would have to be a perfect storm.

True. It's why I advocated signing Joe Thornton to a cheap 1 year deal to center the third line. Still, I see what you're saying. You'd cheapen your depth. Your bottom 6 might be spread too thin. |

Trade Willie miles before Marner, we can find extra cap savings somewhere else. Unless we’re not trying to win, then they can trade whoever they like. |

Brodie would actually be a really good add...but he nixed a trade to the Leafs so idk.
The most likely move they will make is replacing Fred.
There is two routes to go here. Dealing a star(Marner) if Petro or a top pairing D comes available to the Leafs.
Or revamping the supporting cast, moving out dollars and improving the D. |

It may be a pipe dream but I think the primary option is looking for a good young RHD on a good contract. Will it cost Kapanen, +, Nylander ...or Marner.
I'm sure Dubas has been looking for this same thing for his entire 2 years of GM'ing. Not easy to find. Gotta look at teams that have depth on D, need some scoring, and can make the Cap work.

His contract is very tradable.
Only owed 900K next year.
Dubas gave himself and out and he may use it this summer.
JT, AM are untouchable and Nylander's contract is too good. - Santo_44
If you look at the numbers, he's very tradeable for 2020-21, after his bonus has been paid. $7M average per year in actual dollars paid.
For 2021-22, after his bonus is paid, he's ridiculously cheap. $6.2M average per year in actual dollars paid.
