Your prediction of the Leafs winning the cup was a little off in the end.
I could make fun of you, but I just hope you might learn from this.

Laf going to a marketable team is what the NHL would want.
Minny deserves it but it isn't the ideal team. - Santo_44
I thought the worst team in league deserved first pick. |

The NHL prides itself with it's parity.
Lafrenière going to a team needing him is the best case scenario for everyone.
The best case is every team having a marketable superstar player. Not just a few franchises.

No one really thinks the Leafs will win the lottery. We arent Edmonton FFS. Its ok, well start retooling at the draft and move on. - Archaic
retooling at the draft?
interesting concept... but its entirely dependent upon Doogie Howser admitting his "philosphy" is ... a little flawed. I genuinely don't believe he has what it takes to trade Marner or Nylander.
my guess is Dubas actually makes another hail-merry move like the Kadri for Kerfoot-Barrie deal.... meaning he gives away an asset for a couple of long shots

It was a bold call and you were right. Kudos to you.
Edit: Would you dare take them over the Flyers though? |

Given the state of the league I disagree.
There aren't any teams in the lottery that needs him bad, all of them have good potential to make playoffs next year. |

Yeah, I'm confused why Detroit doesn't get it. They changed rules to prevent tanking, but went overboard and made it much worse.

My thoughts would be that if one just consistently says dumb poop... Eventually they're going to get one right. 🤷♂️ |

Ive heard all week how the refs were biased towards the Blue Jackets.
Cant be both. Which is it?? Are the refs anti-Leaf or is the league pilling for the Leafs to advance? - ThundernLightning
It's probably just a bitter Buffalo fan who has nothing of real value in his life, so he is trying to make himself feel better by piling on the day after the Leafs were eliminated.
I have a friend who works in the NHL head office.
I can assure you they were hoping for the Leafs to advance. |

serious question - (I didn't watch any of the Habs-Pens series)... did the Habs outplay the penguins... or was it more Price getting hot at the right time?

I've been doing some deep thinking about the 2020-21 season.
The only way I can see this working is if they have an all-Canadian division, and of course three other divisions, and teams only play against divisional opponents.
Top four teams in each division make the playoffs.
Once those are done, semi-finals and finals take place in a bubble city.
48 games or so for the season.
No way in hell it can work otherwise. - Atomic Wedgie
They could keep same divisions but just do all the games in a series of bubbles over the course of the year. |

Not sure what's worse...losing Leafreniere to an Offer Sheet in 2023...or paying him 12.6mil on a 5 year deal that takes him to UFA early? - AdamFrench
Remember how we all said that Marner was $1M overpaid?
More like $2-3M.

The leafs going down does nothing for the NHL. They lose a big chunk of diehard viewers right out of the gate. Just to keep Columbus around? People are (frank)ed in the head. |

Leafs Fans : Toronto out of the playoffs is a bad thing for the NHL
The rest of the NHL : Thank god we don't have to watch the Leafs another day. - ThundernLightning
The Leafs create signficant revenue for the NHL, youd have to be pretty stupid to not realize that. The Leafs not being in the playoffs in a year where they could use extra TV ad revenue is bad.

Yeah, it would be so weird for anyone in Toronto to know someone who works for the NHL, which has an office in Toronto. |

Marner was playing great under Babcock.
Under Keefe he took 2 steps back.
That Keefe 'breakout system' is boring and predictable as (frank) by the way.

Florida (because they suck)
Minny (because they are ancient...and suck)
Leafs/Oilers/Pens (because it would break the internet and be hilarious)
Preds (Poile will trade it...YOU KNOW HE WILL!)
Rangers (Get the do-over stud for their "rebuild")

Absolutely they were rooting for the Leafs to win. They took a chance on the play in round, and it backfired on them badly. Losing 3 marquee players was a very bad result for the NHL. |
