I say this in all seriousness, no he’s not.
He only puts up good numbers playing with either Matthews or Tavares. His hockey IQ is not great. He makes a ton of bonehead passes. He can’t play defence, like at all. He avoids contact, can’t win battles, and he comes across selfish. - Tanooki
Kind of a circular argument that one of the top offensive players plays on one of the two top offensive lines. |

Nylander is the only possibility and that is not going to happen.
They aren't backing off this idea until this core moves on or ages out of their primes. - Aetherial
I would take Nylander in a heartbeat. I like his skill set but that $7M cap hit over the next five seasons is just dumb.
You won’t get much value in a trade. Like you said, he’s a leaf until that contract expires. |

NONE of that matters. His analytic numbers are good. He puts up points. Tanner, Dubas and Roger will confirm....that's ALL that matters! |

How do you blame a guy for trying to bring in an excellent mentor with good speed and put up almost 30 goals? The fault for the 13th overall pick is only Dubas’.
Metrics and assumptions that based on great offence would comes playoffs leaving a first round pick in the mid to mid-late round. Thus, leading Dubas to believe trading the first to get rid of Marleau’s contract was an analytical decision.
Trading Kadri and Marleau for Kerfoot and Barrie was a bad summer for Kyle.
At 13th overall the Leafs could land a very solid defensive prospect or a great goaltending prospect.
Blaming Dubas for not trading away Nylander, or a different player with a larger cap, to bring in obvious help on defence is why Dubas looks like a ghost of himself today compared to when he was the assistant GM under Lou. - optimus-reim
He was 38 years-old! And he still was regressing and had a career worse year his last year with the Sharks. Yo do not give a ridiculous contract like that to an old player.

Dubas signs Spezza @ 700k, but Lou has to grossly overpay for a veteran FA. Maybe Lou is bad at negotiating? |

Why is that?
your opinion correct.
would be nice he had a cap hit 5.5 mil but that's why he held out to get a nicer pay day |

Yeah that Spezza deal puts the Marleau deal to shame. You do not overpay late 30's players. 6.25 per until he's 40? Nuts.

Not sure bridge deals are great. And despite COVID, the young stars wll still get their money. Jets now have a year until they deal with Laine again and they'll be no deals under 7 this time around. - RogerRoeper
Bridge deals would be great right now.

It’s amazing that he gets so much credit, but all he really did was trade for Andersen and signed Kadri and Rielly to what turned into great contracts.
His drafting sucked and his free agent signings were awful. Most of what Dubas “inherited” came before Lou...some of it was even because of Dubas in 2015 (Hyman, Kapanen). lol
The same people complaining that Dubas gave RFAs too much money, ignore Lou signing RFA Zaitsev to that atrocious extension. lol - Steven_Seagull

Nylander is worth his contract. Every team in the league would take it if they could fit it in the cap. |
