Pretty sure Dubas handing out 10+ mil contracts to everyone played a part in having to give up that pick. Nobody had an issue with the marleau contract until all those other deals started getting handed out

That's utterly false.

Everyone knew those contracts were going to be more than 3mil

There are lots of people that didn't like it from the get go, purely on the notion that they knew that big contracts were coming up and they needed the cap room.

Babcock already admitted that they knew the 3rd year was going to be a problem, yeah that's why you don't sign that idiotic contract. Asinine.

This is simply not true. Everyone was very worried about that 3rd year.

And it seems like you're trying to get Lou off the hook with this stuff. Marleau's contract makes far worse sense than anyone Dubas has given out.

There's such a double standard about someone like Nylander getting 6.9 and that old (frank) getting 6.25.

This.

The Leafs failure is 100% Dubas.

He decided he was going to reinvent how hockey is played, sitting there looking at his stupid fücking charts and graphs pretending he knows anything about hockey.

Terrible GM. I don’t even want to hear pathetic condescending voice on Wednesday. I hope Shanny grows a pair and fires his ass.

Lou lams doesn't give out bad contracts except for marleau and zaitsev and on and on..... But we should have had him negotiating the big contracts.

Seems like they moved on from the clueless old geezer just in time

You guys all loved the deal when it was signed.....everyone on here was saying it was great, solid vet for the kids. The dubas brought in Tavares at 3 zillion dollars (when the team didn’t need him) and all the other players saw the money and decided they were gonna get paid too. If dubas was even an average negotiator he would have been able to get one of Matthews or Marner to take a bridge deal, rather than a max dollar contract right off their ELC, meaning marleau would not have had to be dumped

Obviously Lou takes blame for signing it, but dubas also gets some blame for signing a bunch of non-team friendly deals forcing that move to be necessary

So Dubas' contracts are worse than giving Marleau 6.25 per at age 38 for 3 years?
