If the Leafs get Laf, Marner is gone for sure.

They could do wonders with that cap space.

The superstar C addition made them a poop load better. They have arguably the best 1-2 punch in the NHL.

What (frank)ed them was the Zaitzev, Martin, Malreau contracts, which Dubas had to fix by adding Ceci's 4.5 million cap hit and trading a 1st round pick. Of all things you could complain about, you are complaining about the Leafs adding a superstar C without giving any assets....excuse us for calling that a dumb take.

Who is this magical 1D the Leafs could of added? If a top 2 D comes available they can offload Marner for him. Why? Because that is what it will cost. Signing JT didn't hinder this team.

Time to change the way the team is structured cap wise. Less money up front, more money on the back end. The other most popular complaints (lack of heart, sandpaper, etc.) can be accomplished at the same time.

In the end, the Mets traded Anthony Kay, who's already a serviceable major league pitcher, and Simeon Woods-Richardson, who scouts really like and think can be a good major league starter, for 11 games of Marcus Stroman on what wound up being a third-place team.

Weird thing is I’m less upset this year. Somehow less invested in this. Seemed more like a pop up tournament without the regular season build up.

Weird thing about series was how king it took JT to get going and the fact that guys like Hyman and Soup never really got going. Nylander and Marner are easy and regular targets but the guys you normally count on weren’t really there.

When you are talking about the give-a-poop factor, Tavares and Marner are 1/1A. I doubt Matthews or Nylander was disappointed for more than about 5 minutes, even if Matthews was easily the best player on the ice.

Marner had a horrible game 1 and then some bad luck, but he was working his ass off and you know he wants to be here. If you have to trade one of the 4, trade Nylander. Besides his is the easiest contract to move. I also think Marner looks a lot better if some guys could hit the net or bury a chance every now and then.

Don't be surprised if none of the 4 are traded and the Leafs pick up some low-end dmen again, hoping Sandin and Liljegren can contribute.

It takes a while to build a contender. The core is still very young on this team.
