it’s pretty obvious that you aren’t looking at it this way, you are looking at it as a Habs fan that hates Edmonton and Toronto.

I love the assumption of me hating the leafs or oilers because i cheer for the habs. I actually like the leafs and oilers.... i hate how they built and market their teams and the hypocrasy from media, but i cheered for the leafs and the oilers with passion. i want a cup back in canada!

Tell me how to rationally look at this then. Because rationally, there is no justification for the leafs or oilers getting the #1 from a business point. Both teams will make alot of cash with or without LaFreniere. A team like winnipeg or minnesota would be able to Market that franchise player as a net positive for the league and it bottom line.

If the leafs or oilers cant win with the talent they have, thats on management and coaching, not wholly on the players themselves. They have build wholly flawed products.

I think it's a bit of a cop out to rip on the team so badly, and throw out stats like their lack of playoff wins in the last 15 years...

The team was managed terribly for a long time, and they made a move to address it. They brought in Shanny, and gutted everything...

I prefer to look at the team as 4 years into a rebuild. When they drafted Mathews (They were legit at the bottom of the barrel), I fully expected to not see the playoffs for about 4 or 5 years. They surprised everyone, and took the presidents trophy winners to game 6, and ran into a tough Boston team after that.

The cap situation sucks, but the team isn't as one dimensional as everyone thinks, or at least no more than a team like the Blues? or esp the Jackets.. They need to mature, learn to finish, and to play at a high tempo consistently...

Complain all you want, but look around the league at rebuilding teams.. how many make the playoffs the first year into a rebuild??

I've been struggling to identify how I feel this morning, and it's finally occurred to me:

This is the same feeling as in the 1980s, when you didn't see a clear path to the Leafs getting better.

It's a sad, empty, hopeless feeling.

If we win the lottery tonight, everything will be better. Optimism will return.

If we don't?

You've got a team that clearly is unbalanced, a goalie that isn't a difference maker, and a thread-bare defence, that only gets worse in 2021-22.

They are currently smushed up against the cap, and absolutely no relief in sight.

Pray for a miracle.

The only thing I can imagine them doing is trading Marner for a defenceman and they are going to lose talent on that deal.

Until the President bails them out like GM or the banks. But, oh, no, they don't "do" socialism down south, do they...
- fifty__missions

Trump has his own clothing line.

He won't bail them out.

Biden, however...

Sigh.

It's not a business decision. It's a random lottery.

Leafs can make more money with playoff revenues - the greatest thing that could ever happen to the league would be for the Leafs to defeat the Rangers or Flyers in a semi-finals, then go on and beat Chicago in the finals.

More money for Toronto means more money for the league.

The money that Toronto could make from success is exponentially larger than the money that Minny could make from success.

It's about the only place on earth that trickle down economics actually works.

Do you think that MLB hates it that the Yankees are so successful?

Do you think that the NBA suffered when the Lakers were having so much success?

Follow the money.

Curious to see what the Genius* will be able to do to improve the Leafs before the next season with the cap space he has and what he is willing to trade.

Of course, its a random lottery.

I was talking about if there was a chance that people had a choice. The talent on wither team should be more than enough to win. From the optics of spreading the taelnt around so that other teams can have a franchise player too is where i stand and that would be benificail for the league.

How much more money will toronto generate with adding Lafreniere? Also if we go with your logic, there should be 1000% more marketing and focus on the habs then, even during its leaner years. Its one of the most winning-est franchise in sports and its treated like a 3rd rate franchise on our national english broadcasts. Anyways, thats not the discussion, but you still haven't shown that the leafs or oilers adding Laf is a positive to the league net bottom line. The leafs should win with what they have, just like the oilers... Pens and Wash are doing it..

I honestly think you guys have bumbled and fumbled your way into a fantastic position.

You have a really good handful of players - all locked up.

And you basically have a blank slate for the rest of your team next year - you've got almost nobody signed.

There's going to be a helluva lot of UFAs this summer looking to sign any deal they can get their hands on - at deep discount prices.

IMHO, you are perfectly positioned to strengthen your team this offseason.

Edit: other than Skinner, of course. Ouchie.

Id argue if I could.

A true 2C and a real goalie would help. But still.

Risto for Anderson. Lol
