This is where the Leafs paying those massive bonuses is golden. Nylander's money is almost all paid. There is little money to go with the cap hits. Small market teams will look for that.

Except that cap space still counts, and there aren't many teams with much of it.

Hard to say, they got to where they are now with 29 games from their best goaltender. There's a side to the argument that they could view their team as more than capable to reach that bar again with 50 out of him next year.

Who knows. I do like the idea of a Raanta / Campbell combo in Toronto next year though.

- joel878

Raanta spends a lot of time on the IR, though.

Sure, but isn't the goal to save some space too?

I might be to young, disconnected... Or just not have had enough coffee to know what that means.

Either way, I don't know what that means.

Brooks Brothers was the oldest clothing company in the United States. Just over 200 years. They claim to have outfitted 41 of 45 US Presidents.

They were synonymous with a conservative style of dress - suits with a button-down shirt.

They just filed for bankruptcy.

They couldn't figure it out.

Depends what team. I think some teams value real $$$ more than cap space right now.

I know that everyone likes to make fun of the Sabres and predict 100 years of solitude, but I actually think they are perfectly positioned for next year.

They have their core locked up, and basically nobody else.

There's going to be an awful lot of bargains out there this off-season.

I fear the bison and crossed swords.

Gotcha.

I feel like watching sports and buying suits during a pandemic are a couple of tough comparables... But I see your point. 🤔

there aren't many teams in that situation right now and a flat cap puts a bigger squeeze on the teams at the top than at the bottom.

some UFA's are going to have to take cheap, short contracts if they want to play this year.

I think it's a bit of a cop out to rip on the team so badly, and throw out stats like their lack of playoff wins in the last 15 years...

The team was managed terribly for a long time, and they made a move to address it. They brought in Shanny, and gutted everything...

I prefer to look at the team as 4 years into a rebuild. When they drafted Mathews (They were legit at the bottom of the barrel), I fully expected to not see the playoffs for about 4 or 5 years. They surprised everyone, and took the presidents trophy winners to game 6, and ran into a tough Boston team after that.

The cap situation sucks, but the team isn't as one dimensional as everyone thinks, or at least no more than a team like the Blues? or esp the Jackets.. They need to mature, learn to finish, and to play at a high tempo consistently...

Complain all you want, but look around the league at rebuilding teams.. how many make the playoffs the first year into a rebuild??

I was with you right up until that second to last paragraph.

Saying the team isn't one dimensional by using the blues as a comparison is crazy.

Until the President bails them out like GM or the banks. But, oh, no, they don't "do" socialism down south, do they...
