Yes, becuase Crosby and Frankenstein are on the back nine. I've seen them win 5 Cups already what is the difference if they win another one. |

There is definitely some logic there. I could see Crosby and Malkin having another run in them, but the team needs major overhauls that I don’t know if the team will do/be able to do in time.
I don’t know how I feel about the rangers. I remember initially thinking they nailed what would be a quick load and turn around, but it hasn’t yet kicked into gear. That being said, it’s definitely recency bias at the hands of a ridiculously well assembled Carolina team. |

There are no easy series. All games are going to be close. I think we’d be in t he same position had we faced Toronto or cbj.
I’m reading on sports net comments from some habs fans saying they’ll sweep us because they beat Pitt in 4.
It won’t be easy but I think we’ll win this series. - Hextall271
This is also a Habs team that got swept in the season series by Detroit....one of the worst teams in recent memory, so who knows. |

Edmonton can have him before the Panthers do. Don’t need that kid in the East.

exactly. ofc i dont wanna see the Penguins get him either, but the Rangers have a better young core. I dont see Lafreniere coming outta the box and getting 80 points. he may one day, but not immediately.
The Rangers are taylor made for that development time frame. The Pen's best talent is in their mid 30s.
Plus I grew up in an era where the Rangers were a bigger rival than Pittsburgh. They're my least favorite team in all of the 4 major sports |

Yeah, let him go to Minnesota. That franchise is consistently mediocre year in and out for as long as I can remember. |

I heard on TV they’ve never even had a player nominated for the Calder in their history. Like no top three kid ever. Crazy! |

Gaborik had a good run with them but that’s about it aside from some good goaltending. Parise’s production is nowhere close to his Devils years with them.
They are hands down the most boring franchise in the league. |

I told the Leafs thread that their team reminds me of the Flyers pre Hextall rebuild (all forwards, no D/Goaltending) and they’re going to have a hell of a time trying to trade for a D man. So naturally they think Nylander+ is going to fix it. |

Derek Boogaarrd?
The two best players in fracnhise history are Marian Gaborik, Mikko Koivu, and Niklas Backstrom. They're where UFAs past their prime to go die a slow death (Parise, Suter, Heatley, etc.), with Eric Staal being the one exception. |

This. I've always contested that the Rags and Devils are a bigger rival than Pittsburgh. I hate very player, no matter who it is, simply because they wear a Devils or Rangers jersey, which includes Simmonds and Jagr during their time in NJ.
With the Penguins, it's more of an individualist rivalry with Crosby, Malkin, and Letang. If those 3 guys weren't on the Penguins, they'd be just another team like Columbus or the Islanders that we only dislike during playoff matchups. But the Devils and Rangers will always be hated simply for existing.
As for this Alexis chick, I haven't seen her play very much. But from what I've read, we're talking more of a really good player (Lecavalier, Tavares) as opposed to generational talent (Crosby, McDavid). So while I wouldn't like a rival to add a star player, I don't think it would make the team that gets #1 an instant Cup favorite. |

The Pens hate did not start until Crosby arrived because they never beat the Flyers until Crosby arrived. Mario was awesome. You got to watch him be amazing and the Flyers would still always win. Win-Win
I will always hate the Rangers. I oddly somewhat respected the Devils. I still do not understand it.

What a great Monday gift that is to see the laffs eliminated. Agree on yo it assessment. That’s the fix by nylander isn’t getting you a provy. Draft draft draft. Golden boy Dubas might be middle aged by the time they fix it. I’ve said all along it’s a cap mess |

Yes, once upon a time the Rangers and Devils were the 1a and 1b rivals of the Flyers but times change, eras change. Right now it’s about asking who in our dressing room believes is our bitter rival. I think G himself will say Pitt. Rivalries are created over time, most importantly recent time. That’s how it worked with the Wings and Aves for a minute. It no longer matters who Bob Clarke, Scott Mellanby and Rick Tocchet hated in their time. |

We used to hate Mario because he would always torch us (just like every other team) until that day he got chemo in the morning, chartered a flight to Philly, and came out and was by far the best player on the ice. Hard to hate a guy after that. And like you said, he'd put up 2 goals and an assist and we'd still win 5-3.
We never had any rivalry with the Penguins during Mario's days because, once the Penguins started to climb, they Flyers went into their 5-year dark era. By the time we rebounded, we were in different divisions, so we didn't build the same rivalry that we had with New Jersey during the 90's.
I get the Crosby hate. I was at his first game in Philly when Hatcher smashed him. Once you saw him whining at the refs like that as an 18-year-old, that's basically you painting a target on your back. And the league catered to him in his early years, no doubt. But really, to me, I can't say I hate him any more because he's matured into what he was billed as, one of the best to ever play. The two Penguins I really despise are Malkin and Letang. Malkin is probably one of the sneakiest dirty players in the league (elbows and slew foots galore) and Letang has perfected the head-snap when a glove or stick comes anywhere close to his face.
But I wouldn't say I hated guys like Dupuis, MAF, Guerin, Staal, and Orpik during their Penguin days. I may not have LIKED them, but I didn't hate them simply for being on the Penguins. When it comes to the Rags and Devils, I hate them somply fgor the jersey they wear. Oddly enough, I respect some guys on those teams (like Lundquist and Daneyko) but I still hate them and wish them nothing but ill fortune on the ice. |
