Nylander and Holl for PK Subban (50% retained) and a prospect.

- dbot

He’s 31...his best days are long gone. More like Shea Theodore for Nylander.

Mitch Marner is a much better player and would fetch a huge return, however, Nylander is the likely one moved.
- Pacificgem

I think Marner has a diminishing return right now. His salary is more out of line with his value than Nylander's is.

If I'm not mistaken Lou left right around the Tavares deal. In turn they traded Marleau and a 1st a year later. They also traded Kadri for Barrie which to me was puzzling.

It's a cautionary tale in team building IMO. Tavares deal runs another 5 seasons and he turns 30 before the next one begins. Yes, he's still capable of playing at a top level but he's likely past his peak.

- golfingsince

He’s locked in now, not going anywhere and he was their best forward against CBJ’s, lots of mileage left in his tank.

Because of their very public predicament all their players won’t get a fair return, but, GM’s are greedy, someone will pay to land a scoring forward.

How are they gonna address needs though? Tavares has a full NMC, Nylander is a soft but skilled scoring winger, which won’t get you a huge return...they have depth and defence issues.

Matthews would fetch a huge return though. Should’ve traded him and kept Kadri.

- Pacificgem

My take is the JT sent it outta whack. Nothing against JT but it skewed their cap in a huge way flexibility wise.

Beagle is a 200’ player, Matthews doesn’t even compare.

He had twice as many points, looked far more dangerous in the games I watched. Didn't watch 5 though.

It might be 11.6 to 10.2 or something but the point stands.

Also, giving Tavares that big FA deal kinda set the market a bit on your own rising stars.

Imagine how they'd look with Seth Jones eating 30 minutes a night. Doubt you get that for Marner though without adding substantially.

Revisionary I apologize but so what lol

Droiun pass on Jones trade JD for Sergachev. I still stay a dumb move Stevie.

$10.893m for Marner. One thing is the return yes but value says less than many would think for a winger at that cap hit.

Who can do that deal is the big Q?

Tavares had a great game five but honestly we’re splitting hairs, they’re both very good players and I’ve always maintained you build through the middle and defence, so they’re both the most important pieces. Nylander or Marner...not so much.

Lou left & couldn’t resign JT on the Island. NYI still made the PO’s both years.

No poop. All year it was McKinnon vs Jones then all of a sudden Jones drops to 4 because scoring is more valuable?

I agree. I just don't see the need to add JT when you already have that roster, especially at that price. It literally drove up the price of re-signing your own star forwards leaving you even less cap space than you would of had otherwise to address other areas of the team.

Now with JT there the guy to trade is Marner. That should clear enough cap space and get a solid return. Matthews plays just fine with Nylander.

He fell to Nashville, who were already flush with D. Then they made that trade for Johansen.

Was listening to the spittin chicklets podcast today.
Someone noted that Nashville arguably have the best top 4 D in the league, and have parted with PK Subban, Shea Webber, Ryan Suter, Seth Jones.

It's insane. They got (frank)ed with Webber on the Flyers offer. IMO pick one of him or Subban since they were traded for one another. Still though, incredible.
