Any upcoming cheap free agents you see as an upgrade? I certainly wouldn't want to give anything up in a trade to fill a position we are already fairly comfortable at.

Shattenkirk puts up more points.
Schenn is tougher

Justin Schultz

I was thinking though a trade for a RD on an entry level contract . Canucks may stand pat but I wonder if they will explore trading Jake for a guy at the same level as Cal Foote or Fabbro . Just throwing out names so they are not important but the plan is for a RHD on entry level that is a good prospect ready to make the jump.

I think they do what they did with señor poo-a-lot: don't qualify him, resign him with a new deal.
- NewYorkNuck

I don’t think Stecher is signing a $1m deal to stay with the Canucks. He’s a proven NHL defender, his current salary is pretty fair, there is at least one team out there who would sign him if he became a UFA.

Fair enough, I see the logic there, but I think with a flat cap it's going to be more difficult than normal to acquire valuable guys on entry level deals. I'd love if we could acquire an up and coming young RD, but I think it may be too difficult, and Stecher is a fine option so long as his cap hit isn't crazy.

I think the flat cap could actually do the reverse and there will be a more than normal amount of movement. I think teams like Leafs TB and a few others will be looking to move a guy like Nylander to a team with Cap space.

Teams like Ottawa Det NJ and a few others will be getting some good players coming their way.

I don't disagree, but my point remains. It'll be tough to acquire high value guys with low cap hits, because the Nucks won't be on the stronger negotiating side

I don't know ? Maybe a trade like Noah Juulsen and two of Montreals three seconds for Jake and Stech?

Again don't put too much stock into the name but more the style of the deal.

Rangers win...lol... how did they rig it... magnets....

Just happy pick goes to EAST. Good for Canucks now on to playoff hockey.

Wonder if NJ with all their 1st rounders will try to make trades.

What's complicating things even more next season is expansion draft. Prospects and draft picks will be gold. Trading for players have to calculate can you protect them too.

Yeah I’m not fussed either.
Would have been nice for Minny or Florida to get an injection of young talent imo.

Bettman knows best and the Rags top 6 forwards looking pretty slick with Lafreniere, Panarin, zibinajad, Kakko and Kreider.

Canucks don't have to make any moves this offseason . I am just thinking out loud do they make a big move this year or next.

Their prospects are coming along nicely and they can easily just wait for the contracts to expire and be competitive. They very well could wait an extra year until Podk is here before trading Jake. Podk plays more like Jake than Jake does.

So our Three Mile Island incident that happened just over a week ago is essentially over?

Thank god. That was a close one!

Red Wings decided not to make a playoff push in the 2nd week of the season. I’m really happy to see that a way better team, that took the season seriously, is getting rewarded.
