Toffoli is gonna suck ass once he loses a step since he's already slow. And this is coming from someone who's wanted to trade for him for a couple of years now.

I think he's got 3 solid years as a top 6 left and then can play middle 6 for next couple as secondary scoring. Speed was never part of his game so his ability to be in the right places and execute will serve him well. He won't suck like LE and is much younger so he's worth keeping as long as he doesn't overprice himself.

Meh. Niedemeyer was the best ducks player. Gretzky was the best oiler. Kane is the bedt hawk. You can disagree, but it’s actually not that hard to just know who you think the single biggest factor on a team is.
- neem55

Missed my point but that's okay. Was Kane or Toews the best during the cup runs? Was Niedermayer or Pronger?

I opened this question up earlier in the year, but now seems like another good time. Is Hughes the team’s best player?
- neem55

Well you can't replace him so yeah he's up there. But why put him over Petey... or what JTM and Marky bring? Its a team sport so just call QH top core.

Podz, Hogs, Rathbone, Woo... maybe Tree and Lind... all coming into the fold sometime next season or shortly after that. OJ starting to carve out role with JV, ZacMac and Gaudette. This all in addition to the top 6 and QH. Who's missing that needs so badly to be added to then make a Cup push?!?
- NuckUp

Let's slow down in thinking that we can count on them being on the team. If anything, OJ shows just how much of a roller coaster development can be.

Him and Marky will be re-signed.

- NewYorkNuck

Yeah that's priority can't believe people thought Tanev was expendable for Rafferty. Though I believe JB will force the issue on LE and sign all his top free agents.

Now is not the time to sign him to a multi year deal.
- Marwood

I'd sign him to a 2 year deal, but not longer than that. Highly doubt he would sign something that short.

OJ was set back because of multiple injury. That's not a common occurrence. The top prospects are trending just fine in their learning curve and according to GMJB NHL ready. Its a matter of making the team and beating out guys for a role.

That may happen in this COVID UFA market. But why say no to 4 years if the price is reasonable?

I find it sort of funny how we all went from "where the hell is OJ, is he going to be an NHLer, how long until/does he ever arrive?" 5 months ago, to "oh ya he played a pretty steady first NHL game in his playoff introduction" now.

It's also funny how we're satisfied with a solid but quiet outing but would have freaked the (frank) out if we knew this is what would happen the day he was drafted.

For a 5th overall pick he’s been a complete bust, much like Virtanen, but as long as they become serviceable NHL players it’s all good. Thankful Brackett took over in 2017

If its reasonable then he fits under the cap for next 2 and after that it gets a lot better for Canucks with many contracts and penalties off the books.

As for line up problems not sure where you going there? TT makes our top 6 lethal for next couple years while the prospects get groomed into the role.

That’s why he’s so impactful... there’s two of them! It all makes sense now.

Hughes on Tanev's impact in his development: I don't think you can put a price on it. he does a lot of things in the d-zone that I can't do. Chris is the heart and soul of the team, it's nice to see him get the goal. He's helped me a lot both on and off the ice. #Canucks

Hopefully they sign him to a team friendly deal.

I mentioned this a while ago and got laughed at. Oh how times change!

Funny you should mention it, but you know who did actually take full control in 2017? The best drafting GM in this team’s history, from Linden.

Exactly. I have no problem saying Gretzky>Messier. Kane>Toews or Niedemeyer>pronger. Each one is the best player on those teams imo. Don’t think i missed your point at all, it’s just not hard for me to pick.
