The haters never actually watched him play. Anyone who did never had a doubt. - DrChristianTroy
This was me, just old school mentality, I’ve changed my views now as the present day game is different. |

Did he play last night? Never noticed him - Pacificgem
He did & looked extremely poised in his limited TOI. Made a couple mature little patience/vision plays that were very impressive for an NHL debut on that stage. |

That is one of the best compliments you can pay a rookie dman playing his first "playoff" game. |

I hear you but is that because of last night? If they’re out in four against the Blues/Stars then it’s going to start hurting again. As much as JTM has been a breath of fresh air for a stale franchise, I would have liked JB to have a bit more negotiating skill so not having to overpay.
Even JTM admitted that the Canucks gave up a lot to get him (in a recent interview). - bloatedmosquito
They need to start to win and learn to win at some point. If not now, then when? The team is set up fairly well right now all things considered: they have depth, they have a stellar goalie (most games), scoring, vets, etc.
I get the "maybe they'll get swept" idea. But what's to say they don't make the playoffs next year? Then they become the Oilers or the Sabres, where players start to resent playing and losing becomes part of the culture.
JTM did say "a lot", but not that they overpaid. It was more just added pressure on him. I agree that it looked like an overpayment when the trade happened, but I don't think they could get someone coming off a year like he just had for a 1st and 3rd or whatever it was. |

Best canucks player and best defenseman the canucks have/will ever have
Also, juolevi lowkey played very well. Which is very nice to see. - Codes1087
Woah. That’s a bit drastic. Let’s have breakfast first before dropping bombs like that. |

Exactly. Didn't do anything dumb, just a steady game. Noticed him a couple times – covering for Myers after he had a giveaway, and on the PK with Stetcher. He is known for a more offensive role so being trusted on the PK in his first game in the playoffs speaks volumes. |

Best Canucks Dman ever already & it’s not close. Not hard to put him up with the cream of the crop to ever wear the jersey (because our history is that sad)... But he’s elite elite. |

My issues have been that 1) they paid too much; and 2) it was at the wrong time. You've basically addressed them (from your point of view) that 1) it's market rate though it might be at the higher end; and 2) they need to start winning some time.
So basically we're at a philosophical difference which boils down to the whole JB vision. I just think that JTM and TT (if he's signed) will be on downswings when the team is really ready to compete. You've addressed that with your opinions.
We can only sit back and watch. While the cap discussion is the flashpoint for fights around here, cap management becomes increasingly more important the closer you come to the cup. |

Okay serious question:
During the broadcasts, there is a heavily played commercial (i can't remember what it's for because I have been traumatized.) In the advert, there are a bunch of people including hockey players. Lots of different people from Cassie Campbell to Brent Burns (though I could be wrong as like I said I've been traumatized.) So my question is:
What the hell is up with Jim Hughson's hair? The first couple of times I watched it, I thought he was wearing a wig as a joke. But then as I've seen it more, I think it's his real pandemic hair. My god, it makes him look like a mannequin version of pinnochio if pinnochio was a pedophile.
Can someone explain Jim Hughson's hair to me so I can get over the PTSD? - RealityChecker
Isn’t it a potato chip commercial? I agree it’s horrendous. I haven’t noticed Jimmy’s hair because I’ve muted and walked away from the tv as soon as it comes on. |

I remember saying that would be the case & you telling me to cool my jets (or something to that effect) 😬 - DrChristianTroy
I have only ever said to ease up on norris talk with him. I have been pumping Quinn's tires since day 1 though. We have never had a dman like him in our organization ever. I still think hes the best player on the team for his overall contributions. Kid is absolutely unreal |

I'm more reassured that he didn't try to do too much so that he would get noticed or try to be a difference maker. It shows a certain amount of maturity to handle the nerves and play calmly within yourself rather than get too excited and try to do too much. |

100%
For a first NHL game, to make no mistakes abs fly under the radar and just do your job is exactly what you want. He played very well in his limited ice time. |

First game is a playoff-ish game against a team that plays decent structured hockey. Playing against a counter-team that relies on capitalizing on mistakes isn't easy. The kid did well. Let's hope he can be a regular next season. |

His blundering has got the team in a decent place. Too bad about his cap management and pro scouting (outside of JT Miller). |

I mean at this point. I'd be happy if olli could play a steady 12 minutes a night on the bottom pair and play like he did last night. |

And tanner pearson. And toffoli. And lievo. Oh and motte has been great. But hey, go on don’t let me stop you. He looks like a terrible GM right now and not one that has gotten consistently better with time. |

Yes, like you said, just two different approaches to windows. JTM is 27, so he still has 5 more good years left I'd think before he really starts to decline, which I think lines up very well with when the young guys will be entering their prime.
The more the Canucks play, the less I think they should sign TT. It's going to cause more headaches with the cap and that window, so cut the losses at this point (unless he signs a really cheap or really short deal.)
Aside from the merits of when the Canucks' window is, one thing I think JB wants to instill was a culture: winning, hard to play against, tough. More than any signing, trade, or draft pick I think JTM has dragged the Canucks into that style. If you look at a lot of the young and talented teams, they haven't made it over the hump yet: Toronto, Edmonton, Buffalo, Calgary... IMO JB doesn't want to wait for them to hit that hump to try and help them over it. |
