If he was that hurt that he played LIKE THAT he probably shouldn't have been on the ice at all because he was a detriment to his team nearly every time he stepped on the ice.
- BINGO!

Probably still better than Staal... even in that condition.

Fair point.

though I actually thought Staal was okay for the most part. Didn't play much though.

Good idea to just single out DeAngelo, who can never be mentioned without referencing his political views.

Let's ignore Panarin who Ek was worshipping a few weeks ago. In three games he had zero points at even strength, was minus 3, with only 10 shots. Pretty disappointing for him. The Rangers needed secondary scoring from guys like Buchnevich, Kakko, Chytil, Howden...they all delivered zeros. Might also be worth mentioning that Mrazek and Reimer combined for a .955 SV% in 3 games.

But again, let's start questioning DeAngelo as an easy target.

- Kooleus

Panarin lost his RW on 1st shift of series and his center is Ryan Strome, the man who averaged 35 points per year for his career before playing with Breadman. As far as DeAngelo, IDC about the politics. He seems to be past his immaturity issues. He was playing with a groin injury and didn’t practice between playoff games, so that’s that. He finished season tied for 4th in scoring for defensemen. Now, IMO, he’s more valuable to a team that needs a scoring dman. Rangers have Fox who is better all around. Their 1st round pick from a couple years ago,Nils Lundkvist, is also an offensive dman and is playing very well in Sweden. Considering DeAngelo held out last summer with no arbitration rights, Rangers should capitalize on his value now. Should be plenty of interest.

Deploying him purely offensively is a problem. He needs as many minutes as possible and he’s not going to get them playing behind both Trouba and Fox on the right side and they’ve been pretty clear they aren’t going to move anyone to the left side.
Also, how much are you willing to pay a RH D that you can only deploy offensively and on the PP, and needs to really be sheltered at even strength in terms of who he plays against.
He’s likely to only get about 18 minutes a night moving forward. Trouba and Fox are both significantly better than him in terms of their all around game and both are going to play north of 20 minutes a night.
Can you pay a guy what DeAngelo will likely want, ask for, and could conceivably get elsewhere to be a bottom pairing guy and PP QB?

Based on Kreider's salary v. performance PLUS the Rangers history of stupid contracts, I'd say 3yrs @ $4.25M per. A gross overpayment for a marginal player. E5

Why not sign Tony and go about trading Truoba?? He would fetch a 1st and more, and free up essential cap space. NY's D-core is still strong w/o Trouba and they can trade or add vetern depth thru FA. And besides is not Miller and Hajek ready to come up?

I could give a rats ass about his political views. Remember when you could have a dissenting view in America without d-bags criticizing you? This is a hockey page.

Sign Tony D to a reasonable bridge deal and then package him for a 2C.

There are 3 aspects to his off-ice persona (assuming what I read here is true).

1. Trump supporter. Irrelevant. Tim Thomas was an arch-conservative while putting together some stellar seasons for the Bruins.

2. Public homophobe/misogynist.

This is personally repulsive, but more to the point, professionally stupid for both team and him. It will clearly spill over from him to the team if it goes on (in today's age and in a place like NY). It will also means he never gets an endorsement.

He should be warned and given a chance to cut it out.

3. Making political fun of Fauci in his Twitter. He is free to disagree with his policies, but Fauci has served 4 Republican Presidents and is one of the most distinguished scientists alive based on publication rankings. To make him seem a political hack means the dude is likely an idiot.

Is being an idiot and a hot-head disqualifying for hockey? I honestly don't know. I suspect he might struggle in the cerebral aspect of the game -film study, improving his tactical play, discipline and so on.

In summary, he is young but there are some glaring red flags.

He’s young. Gifted offensively. You expect young players to make mistakes in playoff games so beating a kid up on this silly website is a waste of everyone’s time

Save your vitriol for Tanner.
The question at bar is whether the risk is worth NYR signing him as he is due a new contract. Panarin is signed for 7 more years. Where are the parallels?
If the topic was which Rangers didn't show up against Carolina, you have a very valid point. But, you are way, way off just because you want to try and make "funny" comments toward Ek. Looking foolish.

All of this.
Tony D was amazing this year and played hurt this week. His off-ice antics are of less concern, but could be seen as a knock against if it becomes a distraction.
The biggest factor though, is do they want to pay big, or even biggish money when they are paying Trouba large and will presumably want to lock up Fox before long? With Lundkvist coming soon, that gives us one member of that side on an ELC for a while.
I suspect Gorton will try to move Tony for a 2C, but it has nothing to do with what he did or did not do on the ice vs. Carolina.

WHY even debate this at this point in time? Can’t this wait for a later date? I mean the Rangers are eliminated and so much more is going on in the NHL right now. Plus did you not just launch your rumour chart? Could you not have picked something out from that?

Really EK ? Asking about DeAngelo ? Come’on your better than this. Dropping the stick lots of as of late.

Playoffs are a GREAT time to evulate talent

But when there's a pandemic that shuts down the world and you don't play hockey for several months, it's easy to pick apart anyone's game. Guy is only 24, which for a D-man, is still pretty young. I wouldn't run him out of town just yet
