I'm a firm believer that unless the players are very close to equal you always take the best player available or trade down for more assets. Drafting for a need is how you end up with Dylan McIlrath.

NHL'20 option is to try and trade the #1 in some sort of deal to Buffalo for Eichel but unless Trouba goes with it you become Blackhawks cap hell 2.0. Even then you risk looking like a total Milbury if the kid becomes the next Svechnikov and is playing for under $1M per on an ELC

I think Byfield is considered a sure thing though, people are extremely high on that kid

Might make sense then. To be honest I have done zero research into this upcoming draft class and those are the only 2 names I know.

But in that case do you roll the dice and trade down to #2?

Tom was a big fan. Kind of surprised that there isn't more talk about a 1a/1b situation like last year with Hughes/Kakko.

If they win, the first overall, no doubt you take Laf. This team needs spark. He's the kind of player that brings that to the table.

Byfield did nothing at the WJC and Lafreniere ruled, so I think that ended any chance of that

Because that's how much better Lafreniere is.

True, but the conversation does tend to include skews for position. Byfield projects to be a damn good 1C/2C, so I figured it would be more of a conversation that leans Laf's direction.

This is so simple ... The team that wins the Lotto Takes AL so fast they get up to the podium quick enough.. No if ands or buts... That's it. end of discussion.

yep, pretty much

Ottawa is just so interesting going into this draft though, I have never seen a team with so much draft capital along with having 40 million in cap space

I gotta give it to them though, I remember when every one tore them a new bumhole when they took Brady Tkachuk over Filip Zadina and that looks to have been great decision

1) Should Ryan Strome be brought back and if so, what kind of deal? 2-yr bridge (4.5/per)
2) Has Jesper Fast played his last game as a Blueshirt? Hope not, but likely
3) Did Tony DeAngelo price himself out of the team;s plans with his regular season or did his price tab dip enough due to his poor series versus Carolina? Nah. Just get rid of Staal and you can sign ADA safely with 2-yr bridge deal
4) Is David Quinn the right coach for the team moving forward? How concerning is his ability to adjust in-game and between games? I think so...only 2nd year in NHL; and a broken year at that.
5) Should we prepare the jersey raising for Henrik Lundqvist now? Tough to think about, but yes.
6) Can Filip Chytil be the second line center if Strome is not brought back? Nope. Has work to do in the dot
7) With Nils Lundkvist and K'Andre Miller in the pipeline, does New York have enough D to get the next level? In a few years...minus Staal is an immediate upgrade. Time to move on from him. Rangers cannot go into next season with him on the roster.
8) Will Vitali Kravtsov be in the Opening Night lineup? If he outworks PDG and JG (not sure of their contract status...they may be FA's for all I know), then absolutely; especially if Fast has moved on.

Fans tend to think Rangers owe Hank a happy ending. IMO, he’s been rewarded with over 100 mil in career earnings. Not to mention his endorsements. Would be nice he repays org by retiring. Bring him back next year for jersey retirement. As far as upgrading bottom 6: my thought are you upgrade top 6, thus pushing players down in lineup. I’m a big NO on bringing back Strome. I also think DeAngelo has more value on another team that needs his offense. Between AdA ,Strome and all our prospects, maybe we can lure a legit 2C from another team. Cirelli was mentioned. Tampa in cap hell next year. IMO, Pointe could be had. He is one of few players without a ntc.
