Why?
So the remaining teams who could have a shot at laf have he cap space for hall? - Fakepartofme
Getting a 950K elite talent for 3 years.
Hall said he wants to build a winner and getting those two at a combined 10 million would be pretty insane.
Any team can create cap space. |

No doubt he will perform in his usual mediocre ways. Of course, that won't stop some members of Leafs fandom from continuing to overrate his value. - mjones242
I am rooting for the guy and it is obvious he has the physical tools.
His decision making has been awful the past few years. |

Yeah, I'm rooting for him too - not all d-men progress at the same pace so he still could make that big leap forward that we all would love to see.
But... he looks like he's plateaued and the end is nigh on the Dermott project. Frankly, I think the Leafs should package him up in a deal that sees a legit Top 4 guy returned.
If he's not traded he likely re-signs for no more than 1-1.25M and gets 1 year to prove his quality. |

What is it that people expect from him? 157 career regular season games, he hasn't even played two full season games wise in the NHL yet.
I'm just going to go out on a limb here and say there's a poop load of NHL defenseman who haven't exactly hit their ceiling 157 games into their career...
I mean by this logic, Sandin only has 131 games to become a legit top 4 dman or people are going to be closing the book on him because he's plateaued. |

Dermott is a bottom pairing guy here because he's behind Rielly and Muzz on the depth chart.. Now, that he's in a top 4 role, he needs to have a really good game.. Can't have him only playing 13 minutes a game now that Muzz is out, he needs to go out and earn the extra minutes |

Well, yes. That goes without saying.
I'm talking about the expectation on dermott in general, because it's far from the first time I've seen negative commentary about his progression in. Hence the question, where should he be? He's a bottom pairing defenseman who can step into the top 4 occasionally with mixed results. Where is he supposed to be after 157 career regular season games?
Yes he came from a monster draft year where Werenski, Provorov, Hanifin, and Chabot were drafted ahead of him.
Jacob Zboril, Noah Juulsen, Jacob Larsson, Gabriel Carlson, and Jeremy Roy... We're also all drafted ahead of Dermott.
You look at the 2014 draft (one year ahead of dermott) and aside from Ekblad... Julius Honka, Travis Sanheim, Tony Deangelo, and Hadyn Fleury are the most reputable NHLers to be taken out of that drafts first round. Brandon Montour out of round 2? I don't even know how many defenseman I'm counting who's name wouldn't even be recognized today...
So what exactly are people expecting Dermott to be right now? Is he supposed to have hit the level of the Werenskis and Provorovs who were top 10 picks in his draft? |

IMO, and I am only speaking on my behalf, I expect more consistency from him. I know he's still really young, but we can't have him making mistakes. All we need from his is a strong defensive game.
I know he's not a physical guy, so no one expects him to be Jake Muzzin. Just someone that consistently is tough to play against, that doesn't get beat easily and doesn't turn the puck over as easy as he does some times.

He and Bracco should be ahead of Konecny, because Dubas and Co. traded down from the 24th overall pick because of mathy reasons. |

Well... That wasn't his biggest (frank) up of that draft as Sebastian Aho was taken two spots after Dermott.
Only saving grace on that one is the idea that every GM in the league was asleep there. |
