I would rather play Tampa instead of Philly - PatC80

They were awesome, many bands from the seventies get zero credit, like Iron Maidon. - bobbyisno1
Love me some Iron Maiden but they didn't release any albums in the 70s. Their eponymous debut was in '80. |

Agreed. Tampa is talented. Motivated. Pissed off. Lots of playoff experience. Added some sand paper to compliment the skill. They could be a real powder keg. A young Flyers team would be the better matchup. |

Out of the 4 teams, I'd rather have Leafs play Boston.
Then Washington.
Tampa and Phi I would like to avoid. |

Leafs know Boston very well and vice versa. Caps seem to be missing something. Philly might be too young to feel any pressure. Could be scary. But I'd want nothing to do with Tampa. |

I think it matters - the band may have formed in the 70s but they didn't release a thing until '80. They're perhaps the quintessential 80s metal band leading the charge (with Judas Priest) in the New Wave of British heavy metal.
Nazareth formed in '68 but no one would call them a 60s band, amirite? |

Habs over Kings in 1993. - Atomic Wedgie
I admit I was too upset to watch the finals and it is a good time to bring that up. That series is now 27 years in the rearview mirror. Montreal has a crazy good fan base, but the humiliation that fan base endured on the night of December 2, 1995 and since has been significant. Roy basically walking by the coach and telling the owner to f*ck off was priceless for non Hab fans. And the two cups Roy won afterwards with the Avalanche adds a bit of salt. Long live the "Curse of Roy" 27 years and only about 59 more to go to catch up to the Curse of the Bambino |

I think it's more mental than anything. I could be way off here but I compare last year's Lightning to the 95/96 Red Wings. Tampa ironically tied that Detroit team for wins in a season with 62.
Both teams had banner seasons. Hardly any injuries. No adversity. The only real difference was Detroit lost to an eventual Cup winning AVS team in the WCF. Whereas Tampa was swept out of the first round by a huge underdog Columbus team.
So Detroit took a step back and didn't play as hard the next season only winning 38 games. BIG thing was trading for Shanahan. Playing grinders like Lapointe, McCarty, Maltby, Draper more. To compliment the skill guys like Yzerman, Fedorov, Kozlov, Larionov...
Tampa also took a step back early in the season. They know they're being judged by what they do in the playoffs. They added Coleman, Goodrow and Cup winner Maroon. A little less flash and a little more dash. I think Tampa is trying to emulate what the Red Wings did in 1997. They want to be able to beat you on the ice or in the alley. That 1997 Red Wings team certainly could.
Will it payoff for Tampa in 2020 like it did for Detroit in 1997? Is this a fair comparison? I don't know. Larry Murphy is still thankful for Mike Smith trading him to from the Leafs to Detroit for future considerations at the '97 trade deadline. I had to get that in there! |

I do agree that you should want to play any team no matter what. But I do believe players have their preferences. They won't say it of course. |

That ended up backfiring on the Red Wings. Detroit lit up Roy and the Habs 11-1 that night and a few days later he was basically gifted to Colorado. Roy was the missing piece for them and they eliminated the Red Wings in 6 games in the WCF. No Roy no Cups for Colorado. Not only because of his excellent Goaltending but he was also the leader of those AVS teams. |

Leafs v Tampa would be a wickedly fast and fun series to watch.

He does this sort of thing all the time.
He says outlandish, improbable things that nobody else says in hopes of it becoming true so he can tell people how smart he is.
And once he says it and is proved wrong, he doesn’t let it go. |

He did admit he was wrong. The body practically had to crawl out of Howie Berger’s funeral home but it did happen. |

She’s enjoying it. I don’t think she is the next Hendrix, but she has “invite her to the campfire” potential.
She bought a pedal - didn’t realize she needed to order the 9v DC cable separately. I checked my random cable box in basement - 6v, 12v, no 9v. I am still pissed! |
