Not to be Captain Obvious but playing Moose tomorrow is the right move. Get him his action then ride Hart one last time before the games count. Limits number of days between playoff opener for Hart.

The team needs to keep drafting and developing at close to the same level as the Hexy era to make sure this is a longterm turn around.

I can't think of too many players that I would not trade for (2) 1st round picks. Even if it meant taking on a stiff to even up the contracts.

- mickel25

Agreed on this point. It's a pretty short list of players I wouldn't trade for 2 firsts. Starting with McDavid, Draisitl (sp. ?), Crosby, Ovechkin, Matthews, McKinnon, Kucherov, Q Huges, Makar, C. Hart, and maybe some others. May be a fun list to make up.

Exactly. They need to keep using ELC contracts to have talented players but keep under the cap ceiling. They can’t hold on to all this talent. These players are going to get paid. As contracts grow the Flyer’s are going to have to replace those contracts with cheap ELC’s.

The Schenn trade may have been viewed in this retrospect. He was the contract that the past management didn’t see fit. They may have risked the loss hoping to gain some young and (cheap) talent.

The Flyers will have to gamble in this again in a few years.

Don’t get me wrong here (because I take Lindblom’s and Patrick’s issues seriously) but the Lindblom and soon to be Patrick deal may be the risk that pays off. Cheaper contracts for players that could over perform those contracts.

Totally agree. Liked Schenn a lot while he was here, but that's a very good return. Whether or not Frost and Farabee end up being special players remains to be seen, but I think they're both going to be very good for the Flyers.
- Ftown19125

Yup, the floor on these two players is already pretty high. We can see their talent level here and there. It was a tough loss to swallow in Schenn but these two kids will be pretty good players. How good is still in the air.

The drafting of a guy like Mason Millman shows even more promising signs IMO. Kind of an off the board pick, but shows they valued some things in his game that fit the mold of a modern quality defenseman. It looks like they will be rewarded for it. Not sure how much you've been able to watch him, but he looks fantastic.
- YuenglingJagr

Have seen him other then some highlights. Seems like an AHL guy with some skill sets that may translate to the NHL. Do you think he is going to crack the NHL?

Agreed. These guys have seen minimal game action after a lengthy hiatus. It’s important to get him some ice time.

Probably a good call. AV has been shuffling those two goalies pretty well up to this point. By his account it seemed like he had made some of these decisions awhile back in the planning stage.

I believe last time we played the Caps fans were a little upset Moose got the nod over Hart. Moose proved them all wrong

I like the odds that at worst both pan out to be solid 2nd liners, which to me is what Schenn was/is. So a 2 for 1 that better fits the teams window (certainly from a cap stand point at least) is a solid move for me.

Now had they selected one or two long term project players with these picks I’d probably be singing a very different tune.

Probably not likely but I wouldn’t even be shocked if AV decides to split the last game between Hart and Moose.

Other factors I see as well. Moose beat Wash on the road during that hot streak prior to the shut down. Tampa is the more dangerous team IMO so Hart gets that one.

Winning that top seed doesn't mean all that much. Just about how you are playing going into the first round.

IMO, Moose has been decent all year. Early in the year he was rock solid even though the team was struggling.

First off I want to say I thoroughly enjoyed watching MJL spit facts for like an entire day straight in eks thread.

Second, it feels so good Hockey is back and even better that Oskar is back on the ice.
What would you guys think the chances of Oskar playing in a post season game this season would be? I think if the flyers can make it to the 2nd/3rd round we will have an Oskar appearance

I'd be shocked if he even saw warmup time on the ice in these playoffs. He's basically 8 months off with chemo in the middle. Not sure what the side effects of his treatment on his overall skeletal structure. Time will tell. I'll be happy if he's back in action next season.

Agreed.

If you're serious about being a contender for the Stanley Cup you have to be able to beat anyone you face. Granted, you wouldnt want to have consecutive best of seven series against Tampa, Washington, AND Boston in order to advance to the finals, but you need to be able to beat any of those teams in a series, imo.

Fletcher has already said it’s not out of the question to see Oskar on the ice this post season so I hope the flyers can go on a deep run and time will tell if Oskar will play

Add that to the obvious fact that there's no home ice advantage other than last change. I personally just hope the team is ramped up enough to match the intensity of the team they face round 1 who may have had to scratch and claw in.

There is no easy way out of this dilemma. If Moose plays tomorrow, then Hart plays after 6 days against a potent club. Lets say he gets shelled. What does that do for his confidence entering playoffs.

How about 2 periods Moose and then Hart tomorrow?

Moose played Washington well in both showings. I’m leaning to it was just part of the idea to flip the goalies but I’m sure that could have played a part of AV’s decision.

If I had to choose a loss in the remaining two round-robin games, I would choose Wash to lose to. I believe we match up very well against Caps. I would love for us to beat TB in a competitive game before the fun starts. Therefore, I am hoping Boston beats Tampa at the 4 o'clock game today.

It would have to be a deep run and Lindblom would have to be showing some pop in practice.

Honestly, IMO I think he is here more symbolic and to pump the team up then anything. But the black and orange in me wants it to happen so bad. For his sake.
