Do you have a proofreader?

The Blackhawks new the Oilers were going to bring it.

I know some of us chatted about this already on the message boards, and you can say that it's hard to role 4 lines when you're constantly chasing in the game and there is some truth to that.

Can be a distraction sometimes......makes the writing appear rushed and 'first draft.'

- jimnhlnut

Yep I do. I pay Jim Grammarly $50k a year to proofread my Hockeybuzz articles.

Joking. I do not have a proofreader and do the best I can. Full transparency, I was rushed because I'm at the cottage and wanted to get you all a blog late last night because I want to spend time with the fam today for my vacation (even though it's been feeezing up here).

Thanks for catching those errors. I have updated.

He cannot make the mistake again of putting Maata/Strome/Nylander in the ice at the same time vs McDavid when he has last change

Gotta coach a smart game

- PatShart

Agreed. Which makes you think maybe Nylander and Strome shouldn't be on the same line.

Possibly. I personally think this was all Colliton not managing his assets effectively as far as drawing up a lineup and deploying the players appropriately during the game.
- AEL_Fox

Agreed. He and the Hawks players need to be better tonight.

Agree. Just as much as the players need to play smart fundamental hockey, Colliton and staff need to coach smartly and fundamentally.

And without panicking if they give up something early.

I love when people throw grammatical stones and then use a word improperly or misspell something in the very post they are critiquing from.

Darling started 24 games the Cup season, about 30% of the season, so he was up to game speed. When was the last game Subban even played in (except for that one minute), let alone start one. Once Crawford started the exhibition, you knew they were going to ride him as far as they are going to go.

The Quinneville insertion was stupid.

JC could have went with double-shifting Kane (which I suspect was always the plan) and go with 7 D. However, The last time JC went with 7 D in a game that counted, instead of set pairs and spotting the 7th defenseman, he played rat hockey "next man up". I doubt the outcome would have been different.

I expect more of the same from the Oil in game 3. They have the fastest skater in the league. They'll chip it in or throw it to an area and have McDavid shag it.

I know I'll catch crap for this idea but, have Kampf be McD's shadow. He'll never keep up with him in a straight line but Kampf could limit his availability as an outlet.

Whatever they did last game certainly didn't work so, why not?

- Rota's Rooter

If 'shadowing' means putting 2 good defensive forwards on the ice at the same time as McD is out there to limit how much open ice he sees, the Hawks can do that with Toews and Kampf alternating. However, #97 is too fast/too skilled/too good to shut down completely for any length of time. And putting him on the PP pretty much means facing off at center ice about 30 seconds later.

I would like to see Keith and DeHaan paired where possible but that leads to other problems..

In his last 10 games of the season, Crawford allowed:

1+2+6+2+2+2+3+2+2+2+2 = 26 = 2.6 per game.

In his last 20 games - only 6 were above 2, only 1 above 3.

I didn’t calculate his save percentage, but just looking at the game percentages - in 13 of the 20 games, he was above 92%.

Now, that was all 4 plus months ago - and before he became Covid-positive, but if he’s at all easy to go, he’s the right choice for game 3.

And whoever said that he was outplayed by Lehner this season....

The Hawks had great goaltending all season with CC and Lehner and they still were out of a playoff spot with little or no chance of making the Top 8. Ya, couple of bad goals against last game but goaltending isnt the main issue.

Looking down the roster of skaters provides the answer to where the real problems lie.

It's all good. He was actually quoting my blog.

I dropped the ball... just like the Hawks in game 2.

I'll be better in the grammar category in my next blog.

hawks were top of the league in high danger chances against...hell without lehner and crow the hawks are the redwings or worse...

you cough up to many high danger vs oil with turnovers, pens, overly aggressive play..no chance...

the hawks had sky high corsi in G1 and still coughed up 4 goals...yes two were late as the oil pressed...

Being as bad or worse than the Red Wings is hard to imagine but I get your point.

The OilCans are beatable but not if the Hawks can't kill a penalty or score on their own PP's.

Tyler, good critique of the Quenneville decision. Not only did he show up to camp out of shape ("unfit to play"), I believe Powers stated something about the coaches being none to happy about his use of time in camp as well.

Two whammies against him yet he gets rewarded over more deserving youngsters like Sikura, Hagel, and Kurashev who could have been more effective.

Even if Colliton played them for 5 minutes, they may have been more impactful (positively) than Quenneville. I didn't even notice him at all in Game 2.

- AEL_Fox

My initial reaction to learning Quenneville was the Caggiula replacement was wait ... what? The only thing I could come up with was Quenneville could play more physical than the other guys who have played an NHL game and perhaps Colliton expected a more physical game from Edmonton after they laid an egg in Game#1 - he wanted that option available if needed. And then when the Oilers took control early, they didn't need to play meathead hockey so Colliton didn't need play Quenneville more that a few shifts. I don't know - reaching for plausibility?

Containing Draisatl seems doable so far.

Although he and others like Neal, Nugent-Hopkins, and Yamamoto still need to be watched like hawks (sorry for the pun), McDavid will always be the biggest threat.

McDavid will get his chances and outskate the opponent more often than not, so just need to make life difficult for him. He's not moving 100 mph all the time.

Shadowing is part of the battle. So is frustration by way of agitating the crap out of him to help decrease his effectiveness.

Agree, Toews and Kampf should be the only centers deployed against McDavid.

Then, as an idea, consider pairing Keith and Murphy as the shutdown D pair.

Rotate Boqvist in with Keith during more favorable matchups. Pair Boqvist with de Haan all other times.

I haven't seen many Oilers games this season but I don't recall the Oilers playing a meathead style or playing a heavy game.

What was JQ going to provide if the game was heavy?

Colliton continues his long history of questionable decisions.

My biggest disappointment was, as tough the start was, they were able to claw themselves back to a 3-3 tie with 4 minutes left in the 2nd period. They had a chance to win a game they didn't deserve. And they didn't step up, collectively.

Perhaps #2 can find a way to not gift wrap The Oilers' first goal 19 seconds into the game, then draw a stupid penalty 3 minutes later.
- Nmbr1

That goal was on #27. He was supposed to switch sides with Keith and left Mcjesus wide open in front of the net.

Both teams were pretty bad IMO, and there were a ton of fluke goals.
I expect a better effort tonight from the Hawks.

I am amazed how Leon has been a non factor. If I didn't know who he was, I would guess hes just an avg player.
