Regarding JVR- I have been critical of him due to his contract (not his fault). I have felt that he NEEDS to play with line mates that will let him play to his strengths. I thought moving him to 2nd line with TK and Hayes would help him but Laughton has closed the door on that. Do we bump NAk down to 4th line in Raffl's place and insert Farabee on 3rd line. Does that help JVR?

Thoughts?

- cdearth23

I personally don’t blame JvR for his contract or his play. We knew what he was when we signed him but I don’t think anyone expected Giroux to be completely taken out of center duties. G is the real deal at face offs and while never at a Couturier or Hayes level in terms of two way play, he’s never been a one dimensional center like LeCavalier or Briere. Truth is, JvR needs to be in the crease with talent on the PP and he needs to be fed by a skilled playmaker at even strength. We don’t have someone to give him this, so we’re stuck.

This is something I would like to address, and its been a long time coming.

By and large, I have nothing against you. I have learned from your posts about Hockey. You are just some dude who I share occasional time with on the Interwebs. I wish you well.

You do have a habit however of snarking behind my back about my non Hockey posts. And I would like to address that.

First, I am not a troll.
1. I post far more about Hockey than you do nowadays.

2. My posts are carefully composed. They are long, but rarely have grammatical/spelling errors. Trolls do not expend such effort for the sake of linguistic clarity and aesthetics. Its not a characteristic.

3. Trolls are people who post nonsense to elicit a reaction. I post what I do not at all for the sake of drawing a reaction. There is no evidence of that whatsoever. Out of a sense of obligation, I often respond to those who respond. Should there be no response, the communication will stop. Usually, I say what I say in the very first post.

Throughout my mostly passive presence at HB, there have been zillions of diversions. People have talked incessantly about attractive women (with pictures), about alcohol, and many other things. Its not necessarily an ideal situation, but I am hardly a trailblazer in this regard.

Your distaste for hockey diversions has been respectfully noted. I appreciate your concern. At the same time, the reason if I should persist, I do so to troll will demonstrate nothing more than your lack of ability to parse situations.

And if you ask why I bother, let me respectfully inform you that is none of your business. Should you feel threatened, you are free to complain to the mods.

I trust I make myself clear.

I don't necessarily even disagree with your stance on the issues, and your posts aren't poorly written. But... it does seem like you're flagrantly stirring the pot and derailing the thread on the daily.

I get it, you're just talking about something you're passionate about. And yeah, we should be free to deviate from the topic from time to time because we're human and we're here to have a good time.

However, even in polite times, politics/religion are really risky topics. Especially in the today's social climate, you're simply playing with matches and gasoline.

In the interest of the public peace, I urge you to stop. Or at the very least, just take it 1v1 in PMs with your target of choice.

For many it represents one thing (say military), and for many another (say civil right legislation). So, the issue is, if someone takes offense at a particular action, they need to understand that while the source of their anger maybe because they feel 'the military' is being impugned, it could actually be something else is being targeted.

It's like this, if a black man breaks into my house and I call the cops, it is because of the status of the intruder, not because of the color of the man's skin. If the black man feels my protest at his presence is a racist act, he is logically wrong.

I know this point of logic will escape you, as all points of logic do, but I suffer from the usual misguided high-mindedness of many who have strong ties with academia and teaching. Surely if I explain one more time he will get it, empirical evidence and past exasperation notwithstanding.

As for the last point, as someone pointed out, this is not about politics, and nor will be my future Covid update.

Its hardly my problem that with your usual insecurity you conflate the two, post about BLM incessantly on another thread and then have the complete lack of self-awareness to protest not talking hockey on Hockeybuzz within minutes of each other.

- PT21

This is all ridiculous. You also fail to realize that I did not protest not talking hockey on Hockebuzz, as I readily discuss other topics on other threads. What I clearly stated was that Bill has made it known that he does not want issues such as politics discussed on his thread. I clearly made it known out of respect for Bill, that we should not do so on THIS thread.

Do as others have suggested. Start your own thread if you want to try and "educate" people and post on Covid or any other non hockey related topic. I'll be glad to participate and turn the teacher into the student.

1. How did I derail the thread yesterday?

2. Please note that I almost never start a fire. If there is a diversion already, I say my piece. I try to not rant. I say what I have to say and I try to be as persuasive as possible.

3. I understand you would like this space to be devoted to Hockey and Hockey alone. I understand your perspective about gasoline and rhetorical matches. Trust me, I really do. I am not unsympathetic to this at all. I have been here for 12 years, including 3 Presidential elections. My opinionated venting was conspicuous by its absence.

But at the same time, please don't think that just because someone chooses not to listen to you, they are uninformed/insensitive about the issues, or want to spite you or others, or are being bull-headed, or trolls, or are doing it to have a perversely good time at the expense of others.

@PT21

Let me summarize my opinion. Even though I won’t kneel and still don’t think it is the best way to demonstrate, I hope that all can embrace the logic of the following:

A national flag represents a country. In the case of the US flag, in one word, it stands for freedom.

In general,
Standing = form of respect
Kneeling = form of respect
Both ways are a form of respect.

Standing is traditional in honor of an ideal we aspire toward and representative of a history of cost in it’s pursuit.
Kneeing peacefully emphasizes the work that is needed to fully achieve that ideal.

Two views that are not in conflict but are BOTH personal expressions of patriotism. As such, criticism for kneeling or standing for the US flag is not rational.

And moving on...

I mentioned the flag is not exclusively associated with the military in response to a poster. This point has nothing to do with politics.

I also mentioned I would post some stuff about Covid. I made it clear it would be nothing about politics.

You chose to demonstrate your newfound respect for Bill's understandable distaste for politics by... incessantly arguing with me to cut out the (non-existent) politics.

Yes, the conversation about the flag and how it relates to kneeling and the military is absolutely politics. Your discussion that you plan to offer on Covid will likely have a political slant to it and if it doesn't, which is doubtful, it will most definitely evolve into a political discussion. What don't you get? My respect for Bill is not newfound.

I wonder if the refs saw that. Yea, it wasn't egregious and it was just held there but what if a player suddenly turns? Could easily get under a visor and do some damage. Regardless of force, any intentional raising of the stick towards a players head should be penalized.
- MJL

And let’s be honest. With who was holding the stick I don’t think it was a coincidence. And maybe he is injure which is why he didn’t do more. If we match up with them in the playoffs I hope those two go at it. But again. Also feel he will target someone like Joel for the actual fish grind part.
