At the pause, NYR were sitting in the 13th draft slot.

Today, they are guaranteed 9-14 with a 12.5% shot at top OA pick.

It's clear they need more to compete so this draft should provide what they need to put them over the top when it's their time.

That is stupid talk by brooks just to get clicks and discussion.

That canes forecheck overwhelmed the D for the rangers I think. Seemed like they always had two guys in deep swarming.

They matched the Aho line vs Panarin because breadmans line couldn't defend them and he's not dangerous if he doesn't get the puck. Mika's line COULD defend against them, so wanted to stay away from him.

Then used Staal to neutralize Mika, because Staal line didn't need to produce anyway.

Quinn should have loaded a line up when things started going sideways.

I am definitely on board with best player available at first overall no matter what
- jimbro83

This is the same crap one of the beat writers in CAR started when they won the 2nd overall, saying they might pass on Svech in favor of Tkachuk or Kotkaniemi.

being an impartial observer, if the Rangers did win the lottery, what do you think of the idea of trading it to Ottawa for 3rd and 5th overall, I think Ottawa would absolutely lust for Lafreniere

seems to me the wisest thing to do would be to trade back a couple of spots if they aren't sold on Lafreniere as their primary need

there is no debate that center is a way higher need for the Rangers then wing though

they have Panarin and Kreider locked up long term and Kakko on the wings

Strome as the #2 center is running its course

- jimbro83

Yea 3 biggest needs the rangers need to address

Center Depth
Left side of the defense
Bottom 6 players. Need actual NHL talent and not plugs like McKegg and pizza boy

Yeah, but having picked 5th a couple times recently, I don't think passing on Lafreniere is the way to go.

Dude is Tavares all over again. No guarantee that the guy at 5 is much better than the guy at 15

You take the best player and figure out need later. The last time they drafted for need they took someone named Olaf in the 2nd round

if we get first overall, I think Ottawa is going to want Lafreniere so bad they'll probably offer even more than the 3rd and 5th overall

they have 7 picks in the first two rounds, I think they may be willing to offer all of them

and personally, I'd still say no, just contemplating at what point would the Rangers say yes

I don’t think it matters, I give it a less than 0 percent chance they win the lottery. We are not lucky enough for that lol.

Yeah, I mean there is no way I see giving up the 1st overall unless it was some kind of gigantic no lose overpayment.

Its so difficult to get the 1st overall and there is a good chance that player will be a franchise player, just not worth the risk

I had a bad feeling. They were full of piss and vinegar before the break. They were playing over their potential which happens with a young team coming together, plus Zib's crazy streak and Panarins MVP year. The break was just a dagger in the heart for the Rangers

I'm curious why you think that. I'm not overly familiar with Ottawa but from what I know Ottawa is a team with strong wingers both on the roster and in the system, and they have a need for center as well. I think they absolutely would've taken Laf had they got the 1st pick, but I'm not sure their trading all their picks to get him. Even if they would give us all 7 I wouldn't do it though.

lots of French Canadian hockey fans in Ottawa area, I think they'd kill to get him, help their attendance issues to have a French Canadian superstar they can hype up as the franchise savior
