I couldn't stand how he kept saying that Halak "had no chance" on the Flyers goals. I think that phrase is way over-used in general, but using it yesterday for all those snipes was completely ridiculous IMO. Yes, they were great, perfectly placed shots, but that doesn't mean the goalie had "no chance". He had a perfect chance to make a save, and simply got beat by a laser.
I'm not saying that you can pin those goals completely on Halak. Some blame goes to the D for giving up those looks, and obviously credit goes to the shooter for execution. But Milbury claiming Halak had no chance is flat out wrong. One-time tap in goals at the side of the net, or a rebound goal after making 3 sprawling saves and your D doesn't clear the porch are examples of having "no chance." Rant over

I agree about Halak not having any chance on all but the last goal. He completely lost positioning on the last goal and slid way over to his right.

In the second goal, Nate's snipe actually ricochets off Lauzon's hip, then off Halak's stick and in.

Speaking of Lauzon, I belieev that was a slew foot. Lauzon nudges Raffl first slightly, then Raffl starts to slide down, Lauzon leans on his upper body and then extends his right leg again to make skate to skate contact and complete the process.

The biggest tell-tale sign for me is Raffl's reaction. If there was no slew foot, then there was hardly any contact in the upper body and the only explanation is that Raffl lost an edge. Why then would he start screaming, very unlike him, at Lauzon and why would Thompson and Laughton come right at Lauzon?

EDIT: left

Well on the Thompson goal, he was screened and didn't see it. It was well placed but the shot didn't have a lot on it. If could've seen it, he would've stopped it easily. The Myers shot was also well placed but Halik lost his net and didn't play his angle well opening up the net.

It changed direction off Lauzon's hip.

Imo it was a Slew foot. On top of this, the game was over. It was clear we were winning. That further adds to my belief this bumhole had intent to hurt Raffl.

i'm not saying it wasnt, i'm just saying that that is the league's way out on this issue. I also think it was a slew foot. But, I think we've all seen the league be disingenuous when it suits their purpose in not handing out discipline.

Anyone have a good replay of the hit?
- MJL

This one is good but unfortunately it starts right after the first skate to skate contact. You see the second one that finished the job.

It just bothers the hell out of me. You know damn well if this hit happened to Marchand or Pastranak, x Flyer would be suspended.

Doesn't change anything about my description of the goals but it looked like it glanced off of his glove to me.

Could be glove, you might be right.

Slight deflections. Point is, it hit Halak's stick, so if it did not deflect, might have hit his body which was very close. Gotta give him some benefit of doubt on that one, and besides there was the screen anyway.

Re-read what I posted. I posted that I didn't believe that Halak had a chance on that goal because he clearly did not see the puck and was screened.

Glove or hip, no matter, same result.

Pisses me off too.

Raffl had a hell of a game. On the first goal, he got in behind the D and that was a slick, slick play. Very nice elevation on that backhand from so close.

On the second, he goes to the net, knowing everyone will collapse around him and then drops it to an open Uncle Nate, who has all kinds of time.

My second para had nothing to do with what you (or anyone else) had said earlier. I was just describing the goal (and incorporating your comment).

Not my opinion - looked to me to be an unlucky outcome for an otherwise ordinary hockey play

Other than Lundqvist, (eventual) how many goaltenders are in the hockey hall of fame that never won a Stanley Cup?

The amazing coincidence of Raffl being the lead point getter and then *subtly* slew footed. Contact to the foot was before any other. Wide stance.
I was over at MoneyPuck and looked at how our team, individually and by the line is ranked.
By their standards we should have stayed home. Mediocrity is our standard apparently. Even if they like the team.
Bite me!
Vegas is there pick.
Yesterday our top lines were in good form once the first expired. What I saw then was a slew (the other kind) of unforced errors followed by apology defense. "Whoops! Didnt' mean to do that. Now I'm gonna make up for it!"
And so they did.
Thompson's goal went in off the upper shaft. If Halak had stopped that, even by accident, this could have been a much different outcome.
Not that I should Philly-bluster, but YO!!!!, I'm having a great time since two of my favorite teams to hate on are dispatched. I'm so narrow and shallow when it comes to allegiances. After 53 years I'm allowed. At least by me.

Rogie Vachon comes to mind. Is Tretiak in?

Edit: He is, and add Giacomin to that list.

How did he have no chance on Myers' goal?

I don't recall ever personally attacking you. You're way too sensitive for the internet.
