He asked Austin a question (unsure why he was even allowed) and his reply was more or less i don't like you I'm not going to,talk to you.

Simmons posted tweet crying that he can't get an answer and then brings up mirtle saying that he posted his interaction with Matthews without his approval and that was his story to tell and how unprofessional both were.

More smash. Less dash. The Leafs will play much better in game 2. Really, the flukey goal was the difference. It's not like Columbus dominated the game.

Exactly. Reading the comments it's like the leafs got dummied.

I didn't see much hitting from Columbus. That's all I kept hearing for the past month. "Hitting machine." I must've missed it.

Change how? To what? This is who they are.

They didn't allow very much at all, the 2nd line needs to show up tomorrow. Outside of that if they keep doing what they're doing the goals are going to come.

They may consider dumping the puck in a few extra times so that they can't always be held up and stopped at the blueline.

I'm not an NHL coach, I certainly don't have the answers. But I generally know how the leafs are going to try to enter the zone every time. That means the other team also knows and is ready for it.

Long story short - be less predictable.

Torts seems to have his guys doing the "Penguins" play. Where the Columbus defensemen flip the puck in the air each time they're in trouble in their own zone. It'll be interesting to see how Keefe adjusts to it.

People have already debunked that, just like last year with Boston. But yet people still talk about how the leafs got out physicalled.

I'd say generally speaking Columbus outhustled the Leafs. They seemed to want it more and won most of the 1 on 1 battles especially in the third period. But they certainly didn't physically dominate the Leafs.

I think Columbus can be a little better. But the Leafs can be alot better. I'd be setting more screens in front of Korpisalo and firing more pucks at the net from the point. Get some greasy goals. Cut out the Globetrotters crap. Leafs have the skill to finish in close. They should be feasting on rebounds.

A big (frank) up was putting in the goat instead of Engvall.

As it’s obvious Keefe agrees, he played the 4th line for 3 mins and they got out shot 8-1.

That out hit thing is not a thing.. To me Cbus just took away time and space very effectively.

Leafs need to have a couple shifts where Korpisalo is uncomfortable and dealing with multiple sticks in and around his pads.. some even after the whistle.

I thought after that early Robertson chance in tight the guys would take that and run with it but it seemed they couldn't get back to that for the rest of the night.. and just expected AM to pick corners which he can do...but simply relying on that is tough.

The Leafs should be able to adjust...CBJ only has one tool and it’s what we saw last night.

It’s game over once the Leafs players start to create chances...and they will, it won’t be like last night all series.

perimeter poop wont work....someone has to park their ass in front of korpisalos face and cause some poop....

if the leafs dont get dirty next game, this series is done....

Santo I appreciate that the glass is perpetually half full (ok completely full) with you regarding your evaluation of this team. I think you underestimate the committment to team defence and discipline Columbus brings. The Leafs are not a particularly resilient group and "finding new ways" to do stuff does not come easy for this group. We are one-dimensional. Just saying.

Yeah. You and Burn keep beating that drum into the night..just watch goals are gonna come any second now.... meanwhile Cbus just keeps doing what they're doing..

What leads you guys to believe without a change somewhere, that doing what Leafs are doing is going to lead to a different result ??

because the Matthews line generated well, and can be even better and the 2nd line didn't even show up.

Matthews keeps doing what he did last night and the Tavares line actually shows up next game the goals will come.

Torts isn't going to let the Leafs get the stretch pass.... It's the 1 thing Cbus is going to take away.

If you noticed Jones & Zach are the only 2 D allowed to play like F .. the other 4 play pretty conventionally. But every time Cbus C is 3rd high in the o zone without fail.
They just don't concede that ice.

Torts showed Keefe exactly how cbus is going to play every shift. Hard on pucks 3rd man high, counter when available.

Keefe has to implore these guys to take some whacks, cross checks and gloves to the face to push a puck in for a greasy goal.

- dozerD10

Gotta be patient against the neutral zone clog. Leafs did a pretty good job giving up nothing and not getting desperate. They got nothing offensively themselves though. One slow step by Rielly and it was game over.

Keefe needs to earn his $$ and figure out some plays to break through that neutral zone of CLB.

I don’t recall fans jumping on the leaf bandwagon when they when up in the series vs Washington.

Look, there is a clear better team here and it’s the Leafs. Playoff series are all about adjustments, the next game will likely look completely different. Could even be a 6-5 game.

I’m betting on the better team making the adjustment. Most of the time it’s what happens.
