This is obviously my leaf goggles but a lot of 1st period offsides seemed like they were ok. It was probably the camera angle but there was easily 3 or 4 that they blew the whistle on some good rushes.

Matthews least of all. He played really well. I was moreso pushing the premise that pointing out any single player for a lackluster performance is a flawed ideology.

Not one single Leaf matched the CBJ intensity.

They have yet to figure out what it takes to win in the playoffs, or be willing to put in the work.

To be fair, the game was pretty (frank)ing tight for 40 minutes. Both teams looked pretty poopty until Andy let in that soft poop.

I'd put Mitch back out there with AM34 and Willie with Snakevares. Shake it up a bit. Frankly, it's absurd that Marner isn't locked on Auston's line.

Yes... As with precious years, they need to buy into the idea that the talent level isn't going to do it for them. These games aren't simulated on Xbox.

The 4th line must have had what, 5 minutes?
If they had more, I didn't notice. Spezza's experience is gonna come in handy from the bench.

The Goat had 4:14. Spezza and Clifford didn’t reach 4 mins.

I kinda stuck an eyebrow up when Willie was locked in with Matthews again to... Willie with Tavares and Marner and Matthews was seeming to be unstoppable during the season. But... I figured I was splitting hairs on that one.

I don't remember willie scoring 31 goals mostly with Matthews. Why are we (frank)ing with what's already worked. 🤔

I must have missed the other 5 Columbus goals. That was a hard fought game for the most part. I‘m not entirely sure what was going with JTs line.

I would like to see a breakdown of Willie's time with JT vs AM34 but I agree with your "unstoppable" assessment. Why the change?

Just go to Tree House then. It’s arguably one of the best breweries in the world. It’s about an hour and a half outside of Boston.

A little bit more of a pessimistic view than mine, but in the right ballpark.
They played okay. Columbus was better. Only a little. But enough.

Indeed, I hope this was the learning curve. You can't play into your opposition's strengths for 60 minutes and expect a positive outcome.

Less desperate passing through the slot, less shooting at knee caps from the blueline, less relying on the corner game. More pucks on net, more traffic in front. More generating rebounds and being there to mop them up.

Being better offensively doesn't count for poop if the game plan is to match them defensively...

- joel878

The only player change I could think of would be to possibly bring in Sandin. I don’t think they’d ever change Ceci but he and a few others were often really slow retrieving pucks and making plays which allowed CBJ forwards time on the forecheck. Sandin is really good at making quick smart plays under pressure to get the puck moving out of our end.

Well to me it seemed to be the most productive combinations... By quite a bit. I don't have the stats to back that up. But I really have no idea why the change... I just assumed I missed something. 🤷‍♂️

Meh, I'm certainly not overly pessimistic about it. I said it's one game. I would like to think tonight was the learning curve. Still a youngish team and unfortunately they tend to learn lessons the hard way.

I expect much better in game 2.
