Just cheapening the Cup a little more . This sham tournament in hub city with no fans 5 months after the season ended .!!! with it Pee Wee format is just another Bettman gimmick to go with the rest of the stunts he introduced to hockey over the years . Bettman and his creepy owners sell out the integrity of the NHL every chance they get for a few dollars and a rating point .

Oh, that's right, you hate this summer hockey tournament, but keep coming here to talk about it.

Not necessarily, there are several ways to ice a cap compliant team.

I think the defence will look significantly different next season, the Hawks will give their young guns a chance. My guess is that 2 of Maatta, de Haan and Murphy are moved.

- DarthKane

I gotcha, and I hope you’re right about us giving the young defenseman as many minutes as possible.

I just keep seeing/reading everywhere that we have to get rid of one of Saad/Strome no matter what else happens.

All sports(and all businesses for that matter) are attempting to resume the best they can...not just the NHL. And with sports specifically a lot of it has to do with giving fans/the public some sense of normalcy/entertainment during these rough times. Why do you have such a problem with this? “The greedy, evil NHL creating this sham to get an extra buck” isn’t at all what’s happening. You’ve created that narrative in your head.

Tough to pick one. If it can be smoked, I’ll smoke it. If it can be ground and stuffed into hog casings, I’ll do that. If it can be fermented in a crock or a barrel, it’s probably living in my basement.

I love having a great meal out, and then going home and deciphering how to replicate it, and then when I perfect it I move on to something else.

I make beer, cheese, sauerkraut, kimchi, and kombucha almost continuously.

Right Bettman started salivating as soon as he seen the rating for the NFL draft . He would have restarted the season right there and then if he could have let the public be dammed
Could have waited what another two months and started the next season on time instead we have two season with stink on them and a draft lottery that is the laughing stock of pro sports .Now when will next seasons start this will be a tipping point for NHL scheduling games in the summer as regular event ice quality who cares give them a ball to play with . .As for Greed Bettman and the boy's had no problem shutting the NHL down no Cup awarded to shove a cap down the players throat .

Smoked anything is usually yum yum. And like all the true greats you challenge yourself by trying to replicate and eventually master dishes you come across out at restaurants. That’s admirable!

Never been a fan of sauerkraut, never even heard of kombucha.

My favorite thing on earth is probably lobster butter. Or a well made vodka sauce. Or New Zealand Lamb chops with blue cheese crust.

If you don’t like cabbage, you’ll likely never like kraut, but most people’s experience with Kraut is of the disgusting, mushy, rank, canned variety. Fresh is much different. Crunchy, salty, bright tasting.

Kombucha is fermented tea.

Vodka sauce is great especially on gnocchi. I love lamb anything, or blue cheese anything for that matter. Lobster butter is great, though crab is actually my crustacean of choice.

Right now the garden is just starting to kick into high gear, so I’ll have veggies coming out my ears. Lots of fresh salsa in my future.

Haha yup that was pretty much the extent of my kraut experience.

I love me some tea so I’ll have to try that one day.

I also enjoy gnocchi, and I’ll put vodka sauce on anything. When I used to work at a restaurant I would order pizza made with vodka sauce. The kitchen gave me crap for it but it was worth it. Crab is great too, I love all seafood just about.

From your experience, is this a good thing or bad thing? A little bit of both or neither of either?

Sorry, I sounded like the Cat in the Hat just now.

I have always loved Dr. Seuss!

Having a galvanizing vision and clear strategy is obviously important, but you've got to have someone who can translate that into tangible objectives and a logical action plan for implementing the changes necessary to achieve those objectives. Right now, it sounds like they have developed the former and aren't really sure how to execute the latter. I'd think there would have already been a fairly well defined plan for what they hope to accomplish before and during the 2020-21 season.

That said, COVID brings a level of uncertainty that negatively affects all such activity. Reorganizing the front office may have been the primary objective for this coming year. Maybe they are looking to those remaining to come up with the action plans for their own areas.

Thanks for your perspective on this article. That makes sense what you described.

Many articles aren't particularly insightful or come off as iterations of PR talking points to placate the common fans.

EDIT: It also helps that Wirtz admitted that their plan is vague at this stage and more details to come. In general, I like the framework and will wait to see how things play out.

Not a fan of the new slogan either and really hate the amateurish ad campaigns they have with graphic design done on Microsoft Paint and a font that I believe even pre-dates Times New Roman.

As for the direction of the franchise, I find it refreshing and a good step in the right direction even if the details aren't laid out yet. Look to the future with embracing what is modern and integrating innovation.

Yes, I appreciated that he acknowledged that it is vague right now. Based on some of their stated objectives, very curious to see if the Hawks move to the forefront in the inclusivity and hockey cultural course correction movements.

Not sure I read much new in the interview with Danny - not sure McDonough couldn’t / wouldn’t have said much the same think. Except for moving Community Relations out of business ops and merging it with the Foundation (and I’m not sure what that does, other than perhaps give more focus to it - perhaps a good thing - and I would assume, in these times, they wouldn’t be trying to marginalize community relations) and moving lots of people (but the same people, other than McDonough and Danny) - where is the new vision?

Hopefully there will be a more focused emphasis on diversity, inclusion, outreach to the whole community.

Imagine how many goals Panarin would have if he got to play his whole career with Gretzky.
- mohel

Not too many more than he has now. Gretzky is too old to be effective in today’s game alongside Panarin.

When o was a kid I read about an intervieW by a sports writer with a contemporary of Ty Cobb. The question posed was something like “well how do you think Ty would do hitting against today’s pitchers?” The reply back was “oh, about .250.” The interviewer answered back “You mean you think today’s pitchers are that good?” To which the man replied “Naw, Ty would be in his 90s now!”

IMO it’s even more prestigious than a normal Cup would be. An extra round of playoffs, the lack of home ice advantage, the randomness of the whole thing, etc make it even more difficult than it normally would be. Anyone trying to downplay the eventual champion or saying they deserve an asterisk isn’t thinking clearly. This tournament will no doubt produce a worthy champ.
- SimpleJack

I wouldn’t necessarily agree that it is more “prestigious,” but I fully agree that it is a legitimate championship performance.

The one thing that concerns me about the tournament, however, is what happens if a team contracts Covid-19 the way the Marlins just didn’t. On MLB a team can recoup the season missing 7-10 days — not from the perspective of being able to make it to the postseason but from at least being able to play the majority of their games. Imagine one of the two teams making it to the finals finds that 10 of its players test positive. In that case do they just hand the cup over to the other team?

From the article...."ensuring that our internal culture is an inclusive culture."

Methinks this is a good bit of why McD is gone.
