But he used to be really good at it, like Hextall good.
Might win ya a game with a good chip in OT.
Admittedly I’m a Smith fan. - Byfuglien Ate Me
He might get one good pass off to a player on our team a few times per season. Not worth all of the times he gives up the puck and causes goals against at all! |

I cringe every time Smith leaves his crease. He gets a nice pass in once in a blue moon, but most of the time it’s just stressful as (frank) watching him play the puck! - Ihatebrianburke

He’s a 38 year old goalie and he sure as hell ain’t Hasek! |

Never had to. But Holland has said they intend to send him back already. |

He signed his Entry level contract so he would be on loan to a swedish club. |

Mostly dominated by Edmonton. Sloppy play from both. Can tell they haven't played in a long time. But at least its live hockey. Broberg has looked GOOD defensively. |

Broberg has looked alright. A bit tentative in the 1st but made two big saves that prevented a goal and his passing hasn't looked like an issue. Kinda want to see him unleash the skating that he has some more. |

Drai/Yamo continues to look good and Ennis has contributed.
The PP continues to look GOOOOD.
The PK picked up where it left off w/ Haas taking Sheahan's spot.
The D have been steady.
Koskinen looked sturdy; Smith so far, also.
McDavid's line has looked a bit disjointed still trying to find its legs and the smoothness. McDavid has had a couple chances where I expected him to turn on the jets but he didn't/couldn't beat a guy. The Oilers controlled the 1st; the Flames the 2nd. |

So... pretty decent then.

2-1 for EDM. Lindholm scored on a PP w/ 4 seconds left on a play that, under normal circumstances, likely would've been challenged for goalie interference. Doesn't seem like it's worth challenging given it's an exhibition. |

Pretty much how I expected it go then. |

4-1 finish. An alley-oop takes a weird bounce onto Rittich and P Russell buries the rebound and then McDavid turned on the jets 30 seconds later and beat him five hole. |

“You can never say no. I have grown and I see things a little differently. There’s now a different GM and head coach out there. Build a winning team in Edmonton. It may be possible that I will still be playing there.” - Jesse Puljujarvi
While I still won't be expecting much of him, it's nice to hear he's trying to see things differently (if only to make a trade easier). |

Following his weekend/early week Zoom call with Holland, Tippett and his agent, he was interviewed by a Finnish news agency (I think?) called Tampere Iltalehti. |

Side note, I looked into possible Riley Sheahan replacements as I really don't like how he performed here. In doing so, I've narrowed the list down to the following:
Johan Larsson (UFA coming off a 1.55mil cap hit)
215 game sample
28.19% zone start %
39.67% GF* (44.95% xGF)
48.2, 50.1% and 54.5% faceoffs
*GF% was skewed by the horrendous, outlier of a 2017-18 season where he posted a 24.3% GF (17-53). 49.1% GF from the two most recent seasons.
Radek Faksa (RFA w/ arb coming off a 2.2mil cap hit)
226 game sample
30.66% zone start %
51.52% GF (49.98% xGF)
49.9, 50.4% and 51.6% faceoffs
Brad Richardson (UFA coming off a 1.25mil cap hit)
201 game sample
31.97% zone start %
43.21% GF* (50.19% xGF)*
53.9, 54.9% and 52.1% faceoffs
*Skewed by a 33.3% GF (21-42) 2017-18. 49.5% GF the other two seasons.
Brandon Sutter (4.325mil contract for 1 more year)
131 game sample
27.46% zone start %
45.22% GF (42.72% xGF)
51.7, 48.5% and 48.9% faceoffs
Sutter would strictly be a cap-for-cap kinda trade for the purposes of rebalancing the cap distributions for each team (like Russell for Sutter). |

Ah. Well that’s encouraging then.
If he comes back next season, where do you slot him? |

No to Larsson. Though his name be holy, his game be poop.
Faksa I have time for. He’d be my preference from this list.
Richardson would be my second pick.
No (frank)ing way on Sutter. Probably the best player on this list, but he’ll probably miss 25-35 games due to injury. Then what will we do? |
