Overtime for the exhibition games and play-in series will be regular season format. Playoff format kicks in thereafter.

I prefer the playoff OT format for the play-in series.

- AEL_Fox

But it’s the play-in qualifying round.

Not quite the playoffs, not exactly the regular season.

Maybe they should compromise on the overtime, too: 5 minutes 5x5, then 5 minutes 4x4, then 5 minutes 3x3, then the shoot-out.

Or something....

Watching Pens-Flyers in Toronto - I like the way they covered up the empty seats with some kind of boards so we’re not seeing just an empty stadium.

I’m surprise they haven’t sold ads for the coverings - maybe that’s coming.

- StLBravesFan

They will. I think the local broadcast will have ads on the screens plus national ads

In any case - the telecast is much more enjoyable than I thought it would be with no fans.

They seem to be piping in some generic low level crowd noise - also works better than I thought - you get the “hummmm” of a game.

They got me....

Since Chayka has been in the news lately for quitting on Arizona, it made me think about the latest trade between him and the Hawks, the well-known Hossa dead cap space deal involving 7 players. It's interesting now to see how that turned out.

July 12th 2018:

Arizona Acquires -

Marian Hossa (Dead cap space)
Jordan Oesterle (58-3-10-13 - Arizona 2019/2020 Stats)
Vinnie Hinostroza (68-5-17-22 - Arizona 2019/2020 Stats)
2019 3rd Round #74 Overall - Traded to Pittsburgh for -

2019 4th round pick (BUF - #98 - Matias Maccelli)
2019 5th round pick (TBL - #151 - Aku Räty)
2019 7th round pick (PIT - #207 - Valentin Nussbaumer)

Blackhawks Acquire:

MacKenzie Entwistle (56-11-15-26 - Rockford 2019/2020 Stats)
Marcus Kruger (34-8-11-19 - Zurich 2019/2020 Stats)
Jordan Maletta (Out of Hockey)
Andrew Campbell (Out of Hockey)
2019 5th Round Pick #138 Overall - Traded to Los Angeles for -

Dominik Kubalik(68-30-16-46 - Blackhawks 2019/2020 Stats)

No one would have known it at the time, but by proxy of acquiring Calder finalist Kubalik for that 5th rounder, he alone put up more points combined that Oesterle and Vinny last season, and the Hawks still have a mid-level potential NHL prospect in Entwistle. I'd say this deal didn't turn out too badly for dumping Hossa's cap space and moving a potentially costly 3rd round pick.

Could be - close call. Anyway, the question earlier was whether the current Hawks roster was as talented as those Cup teams. I said not close. What do you think?
- mohel

More like the 07-08 team overall talent wise. 2 D prospects pan out and Dach grows into a solid 2 way center and I think they have enough other guys to be pretty competitive.

They have to move the right veterans away, bring maybe one other experienced stud in and pick the right prospects to give time to. Things need to line up but that isn't any different from any other team that has won recently. Have to have a bit of luck with the cap and all.

Point being, this team isn't completely hopeless and there are some good pieces there. They could easily turn into the Canucks of 2007-2013 and be kind of good but never good enough or maybe get another ship. It would be tough for them to just be horrid at this point.

Not now - not yet.

Could be in a couple of years, if a good percentage of the young players turn out to have been prospects, not suspects.

How many will reach their potential?

- StLBravesFan

That's the thing - no one is saying they're better now. Of course not, that would be asinine.

But is the talent on this team better than what we had ascending in 2008-2009? Absolutely.

The obvious two next unknown factors which need to work out well, is 1). A useful hopefully #1 2020 selection could become a core piece on the roster (after said player development); and 2) Bowman must bring someone in to be the next goaltender.

We are in sort of a time warp since not for a few months do we see what moves were made. Then we can evaluate.

Right now we can hold positive viewpoint that most of the prospects will develop just fine. Only some or even most of the dmen is your too prospects. So it isn't expecting a lot (based on what we have gleaned to date) that the dmen prospects should at least turn out to be descent regular contributors. Still early too get overly excited over the dmen.

I have pointed out that the future roster could be shaped by three pairs of solid dmen but each pair is gifted puck movers although not too physical. Your physicality and some good skaters could fill bottom forward lines. The future teams could be similar but NOT EXACTLY THE SAME as the make up of the 2010 team.

The Blues had only one player not practicing to date. But V Dunn, who had the covid19, boarded the plane for Edm. Other teammates who may have had the covid, had returned. Tarasenko is back from injury too.

Stan still lost the deal, because of the questionable timing the Hawks walked away with much less than they should have.

God damn white Sox made me fall for the hype only to let me down. We’re still as bad as ever. Worst pitching in baseball. We suck. I was lured in and suckered.

I guess I can always just root for the Cubs...

You panic too soon. Although I personally think Rodon and Kopech are going to have career path full of injury or health concern. Whereas I think that Cubs are in a holding situation with their starters and farm system not ready to produce great pitching prospects very soon, the White Sox have some good arms

However

Rodon not yet in top form. Cease is a work in progress. Most of the bulpen members have looked good. Tons of depth are minor league prospects who well honestly ",graduated" due to expanded roster. And Lopez was hindered in his start by an injury. Take heart lots of talent on South side including rookie Robert in CF

Better the DH than starting extra innings with a runner on 2nd, or relief pitchers having to face at least 3 batters (or end the inning).

Kassian just levelled Gus who lost his helmet and took a 2 minute penalty for playing without a helmet.

I can agree with all this. We'll see what happens, but I think the future looks pretty good. Not likely 3 Cups in 6 years good, but pretty good.

Relief pitchers facing 3 batters will make the game go faster and cause more millennials to watch. You can tell an old person came up with that idea...

All we really know is some of these young players appear to be better than "old junk" we have been bringing in. We don't know if they are remotely close to good young players?
