Green has had nothing but praise for zack in this camp, so it actually wouldnt surprise me to see him start. Sutter has been off and on, not only in play, but in health this camp, so maybe they hold him out to start?

Finding a way to put a healthy Ferland and two kids with size that can skate and shoot would be putting your best foot forward on day one. Simply putting a guy like Sutter in because he’s a veteran is silly imo, but that’s definitely been Green’s modus operandi.

I never said roussel shouldnt play.

I meant one of sutter/beagle/motte out and have zack in. Mainly motte or sutter as beagle is good on the dot and is a good PKer.

100%

What ferland did with Aho and Teurovainen was crazy.

Ferland - gaudette - macewen
Roussel - beagle - virtanen

This would be my bottom 6.

No chance Roussel isn’t playing. He is the best playmaker in the bottom 6
- CanuckDon

I really liked Roussel’s game pre knee surgery, but, when he came back last year he looked terrible. Hopefully he’s past that because he’s a very effective third liner when he’s mobile.

Agreed. I think the extended layoff will likely help his game. Extra training and recovery time

I dont think sutter is fully healthy. He was held out for a practice or two wasnt he? Also a scrimmage?

I think it would be tough for green or management to justify virtanen being held out after his numbers this year. Virtanen is like this in every training camp and always ends up making it out ok. No excuses for though, he needs to smarten up and get his poop together, everyone wants him to be better but him it seems

He always seems to have groin issues in training camp, plus his stick legs usually aren’t powerful enough to be at NHL speed until about mid November. A bad core is not conducive to puck battles in a bottom six role. But he is a good penalty killer.

I wonder how the NHL is going to deal with OT, given the schedules are pretty tight? I know CC said they are flexible schedule wise, but imagine being a team slated to play an afternoon game, you prepare and then end up playing the late game, and the team that was supposed to play the late game now plays the next morning. Players have their routines, and this will mess their poop up.

Games could go 4 OT periods , Canucks start at 2 AM

Zacmac has chemistry with Roussel. JV better scoring threat switch with him on 3rd.

I could see this as well, especially if Sutter is nursing an injury.

Both kids are big and can skate, something very valuable against an older Wild team, they should find a way to get them both in.

I agree. Youth and size. No Sutter and no Loui. Wild won’t be able to match our forwards and goaltending

Yeah, I don’t think there are wrong choices either, but I feel like even though they (Green/Benning etc) always say they’ll make room if someone earns a spot, in their heart of hearts they’re old school guys and they will want the guys who have been there before, or have more experience. Not a daily lineup guy, but I expect to see something like this for game 1 vs Wild. I do think he will have a short leash for guys like Virtanen though.

He did make room for them and I think he will again.

Lets not make any mistakes about it Jake is one of the most unimpressive players on the roster so far at camp. He has been invisible except for about 2 or 3 minutes a game. He has a couple of goals.

This is not a knock on Jake or a bad thing on the Canukcs. This is the whole team playing very well and pushing other players. Canucks have not looked this good in years.

Loui has been very noticeable so if he makes the roster it is because he has played well not because Green trusts him IMO.

Exactly. Green should play to Canuck strengths of speed, power and scoring. More savvy PK vet guys like Motte, LE and Sutter gives no advantage against the Wild line up.

They obviously won’t totally disregard what the players did during the season, it does carry some merit. It’ll be interesting to see how this plays out.

I do believe there are no bad choices. They even had JTM and Bo doing PK in the third period last night and to me that means they are looking to see if they can cover all bases. If they can cover the PK it will help them make choices.

I would love to see Jake get in there but he has been lazy and suspect with his D work. Honestly he doesn't deserve a spot but he might get in anyways.
