Hall and the Coyotes have re-engaged in contract talks, per Craig Custance

Hi, do the Devs get anything if Hall signs in AZ?

The 3rd round pick next year becomes a 2nd, then if they also win a playoff round as well it becomes an unprotected 1st

hmmm... but we want this year's 11th over next year's unprotected 1st.. right? But they're the Yotes.. I feel like they could be 5th-12th overall every year. But this year's 9th-12th could just as well be as good as next year's 5th-12th. We would keep this year's 1st from them, in addition to next year's unprotected 1st? Picking 16 and 17 this year wouldn't be so bad.. then pick 10th next year.. probably just like this year- 8th and 10th. hm.
Sharks, Kings, Ducks, Detroit, should still stink next year. Ottawa, Devils, Hawks, Wild, Yotes, Habs, Buffalo, Nashville, Florida, Rangers make up the next group for me... maybe in that order. A full season of Hall could push next year's pick into the teens. I really don't see them as being a strong team. Keller will make 7.15 mil.. Schmaltz 5.8 mil.. are those players really that good?

Yeah would definitely want 11 this year over unprotected next year. But its a good backup if they win the play-in, then we want them to win the next series(and lose before the conference finals) and hope Hall actually re-signs. I certainly wouldnt mind having 5 1st round picks over the next 2 years, but im content with 4 if it means we get 9-11

If they make the conference finals then their pick would jump from 16ish range to 28-31. The teams that lose in the first 2 rounds have their draft picks slotted by reverse regular standings. So if they win the first round(after the play-in) then their pick wouldnt change until they win the 2nd round and move onto the conference finals. Same goes for the Canucks, they can win the first round and their pick would still stay in the same range

I believe it changed to this order a few years ago, but now the order of the 1st round starting from the last pick goes cup champs pick 31, finalist 30, conference finalists 29-28, remaining division winners 27 down to whatever the number would be for those remaining teams, then regular season finish down to 16 for the rest of the non-division winning playoff teams, then obvious 15-1 is the lottery teams

Yeah so its not completely the end of the world if the Yotes win their play-in, we then just need to hope that Hall also re-signs too. Worst case would be Hall not staying after winning and having the pick fall and we only get a 2nd next year. So i'd rather just have them lose and not win the lottery

I would not be shocked if Vats is back in a Devils uniform next year. Let him go have some fun and then offer a 5 year deal at a good price. I also wouldn't be upset. But as someone said on another message board, we need a big bull to add to our D. We get pushed around like rag dolls!

Bahl cant get here quick enough. Hedman-Light! Not a D1 for sure, but we need a presence.

- ShoresideDevil

Don't expect Bahl to be a physical presence. But I can tell you that mobile D with size are frustrating to get around. He will be a quality shutdown/PK, and if we are VERY lucky he will get mean, and develop an absolute bomb from the point.

He could very well be a Seabrook in his glory days!!!! Poor Gelinas. That fake clapper on the shootout was amazing, be we needed to better utilize that one-timer. Guy could launch the biscuit!

Why do you think Bahl won't be a physical presence? I'm not exactly expecting prime Stevens but he hasn't seemed shy about throwing his weight around.

What I've read about the 2021 class hasn't been great in terms of depth. Like any of the top 10 picks this year would be top 5 at a minimum next year. So I'd rather get any picks this year than hope we pull out a lottery win or some poop next year.

I just don't see how they manage to sign him without selling off a lot of their other pieces or paying teams to take bad contracts.

Not saying he can't be physical, but finishing 7th on the Generals for hits doesn't say much when your 6'6", 220lbs and leading the team in TOI. Chara wasn't much different as an islanders prospect. He may be able to do it all, but, in a league littered with 16 year-olds I was hoping for a meaner guy given his size. May still happen.

You don't get as many hits when you're a defenseman because you can't go in and chase pucks. Also, hits doesn't matter because it's a pointless stat.

As long as he plays the right way I'm fine with it. If the defense and shot from the point are good I'll be thrilled.

I agree. Not trying to be debbie downer. I feel he could be a big piece of our core going forward. He could very well log serious minutes against the other teams best players, and if he can throw his weight around thats a bonus. I think he needs a season or two in Bing, but his time will come

Even Adam Larrson threw his weight around every now and again. As long as sc*mbags like Marchand think twice about coming near the crease b/c we have a giant back there, mission accomplished. We don't need a Stevens, the league today would have him on suspension 95% of the time anyway.

With all the NHL teams running camps in prep of the tourney, are the 7 teams on the outs allowed to run camps? I feel like getting the team on the ice to run a camp with Ruff would be a huge bonus considering our youth.

I dont think you're being a debbie downer at all, i think you're just being realistic. He's a fine prospect and could be good for us eventually but a lot of people are over-hyping him and acting like he's a guaranteed guy to slot into our top 4 in the next year or two when thats not the case at all. He will likely need 2 or more years in the AHL and even then theres no guarantee he makes the jump to the NHL after that. People just need to temper their expectations on him. I still think if we waited til the deadline to move Hall we could've gotten a better prospect out of it, but it is what it is

I think if there isn't a season to be played that they're avoiding formal gatherings of all the players. That's mostly based on assumption.

All of our kids have no excuse to not come back substantially stronger. 8 months is a LONG time between March and October. They probably have even more time.. camps could open in November? after thanksgiving?

The more I look at other teams and our team. . I mean it really is a crapshoot. We just as well may be picking 5th overall next season again. I really think 22-23 is the year we're waiting for. 21-22 should be fun. 20-21 will be interesting. We'll get to see where guys like Foote and Bahl are at, plus check out this year's picks. We'll get to see Smith's improvement, Boqvist and Hughes taking the next step, Bratt being more consistent. We'll get to see what Nico will bring, and how Gusev will look after already playing a season in the NHL. We'll see if Subban can be as bad as he was this year and if Blackwood can survive another season. Lots to look forward to next year. Oh, and if Ruff will last the season, will lose the room, will look competent,.. and brand new post-game interviews! yay!
