Throughout Sabres history who would you compare Reinhart to?
I mean Eichel, Perreault, Lafontaine were top centers they had different styles but they were the face of the franchise that the team leaned on and produced.
Turgeon was a level below but he put up some big-time points, had some nice hands, could skate, and turned into a franchise player when he left.
Rick Martin was a natural goal scorer as was Mogilny, different styles but that was their job.
ROR and Peca were leaders and could play both ends of the ice, ROR is better, they both have character
What player is kind of slow, doesn't drive the line, or play the point on the PP (Robert, who could skate as well) and Robert was on the greatest lines in Sabres history.
Gare was comparable to? He was unique, small but tough and could score, I think you could call him a natural goal scorer as well.
Reinhart is not Danny Briere who scored 90 pts one season, was a captain and could skate
He is no Drury who was a true leader, scored when needed, and was a competitor.
He is no Vanek. I mean if Vanek scored half the goals and was smaller maybe. You could often wonder if they are dressed that night so that is comparable.
I'm not sure if there was a player comparable to Reinhart before and if we want to call him unique then there you have it. - GilPerreault11

Pominville. Averaged mid 60ish points over a 8 year span. RW. Had a knack for scoring but lacked Other intangibles |

Where are the big comparable playoff goals?
Really any memorable sam goal?
Where is the captains "c"
Where is the "work hard" to be thoroughly respected by teammates
Where is the 34 goal season at 24 years old?
Wheres the overachiever? Sam is an underachiever for his draft position?
They both dressed and play consistently.
That's the comparison

More of an old school fan here, but sticking to my analysis that Buffalo needs and has needed some toughness for years. They just haven’t had those guys willing to go to war in a long time, especially defensively. Please please please get us a tough nasty defenseman that makes you keep your head up and if you touch our goalie you walk away with bruises on your hands and shins and ankles if not an imprint of knuckles on your face.
This team has needed toughness forever and I know not a goon type but a Tom Wilson type that can play. |

Shepard had 38 goals as a rookie
52 for detroit.
Maybe donald audette minus the 9th round pick and knee injuries part. Statistically though.
Also audette played bigger than he was. Kinda tough
Sam plays smaller , kinda not tough

Yep, sure enough. You were sitting next to him in the lockerroom.
He was and is still heavily respected.
Let me know when the other guy is an awful yes man. 😉 |

Ray Sheppard was primarily a goal scorer when he produced, I don't see many comparables.
I could see some in Pominville but he was a better skater, was relied on to play the point on the PP and was a captain, was more of a leader.
He has some Jochen Hecht in him, more secondary scorer but in his prime and Sam is better player by a notch or two.
With regard to Moulson the concept of producing more with Tavares works and skating but Sam skates better and passes better but Moulson was a better goal scorer. So the overall concept works but the player himself doesn't |

He was hand picked by Lindy. It's no coincidence that Rivet instantly became captain when he came to the Sabres. There were no natural leaders on that team. Miller was probably the most "captain material," but besides the problem of being a goalie, he was too emotional.
I like Pominville but he is not a leader |

Donald Audette, interesting. I saw him as a faster skater and I see the size but the stats have some comparables, he had some 50 pt seasons, 40's and even had a 71 pt season for the Thrashers. He would be in the ballpark but I think Hecht and Pominville are closest.

Dude, it's the Buffalo News, they give you ten free articles a month, it's not a paper that's behind a perpetual paywall like The Athletic or something, and even they occasionally have totally free articles, relax, go to Pornhub if you want to report something. - Wetbandit1
I think we drew out someone who works for the News with that passion.

Don't really care who he is like just be the skunk, as long as he signs a decent contract and puts up his 60 or so points a year, build the team around that first line, and go from there. |

Drew Stafford? - Gr8daygo
Sam averages a lot more pts then him. Pominville is probably the closest.
No reason to pay Sam 7 million.
5x6 or trade him.
It’s a shame Botts overpaid skinner by 3 million, making sams contract demands easier to argue |

Guy typing at home or work behind a computer:
" Pommer is not a leader "
Come on, he was a nhl captain.
This current team though, tons of leaders forcing a difficult choice over sam. 🙂 |

Didnt a former teammate call him a "frog"?
Maybe dean Kennedy?
Derogatory towards french players? |
