Can you imagine learning that the surgeon, who is about to operate on your brain, firmly believes in Young Earth creationism? |

In seriousness though, having an aptitude for one particular thing, even if that thing is neurosurgery, isn't always an indication of emotional intelligence, social awareness or even mental stability.
Take Elon as an example. The guy is beyond eccentric and appears to have the social skills of a donkey, but he might just end up saving humanity. |

TBH it's more concerning to me that someone like that holds elected office |

I'm not even sure they will be favoured against Columbus. Did you know they had a lot of injuries and are now healthy? Also they hit and have an amazing defense! |

Is today's hockey missing true role models, or am I just getting too old?
I'd really struggle to pick a few players to look up to - combining level of play and them being true examples for young kids.
I'm thinking Hyman on the Leafs, maybe Tavares (although booooooooooring) and Rielly. On other teams a guy like Crosby obviously, maybe Couturier and surely there are a few other younger players with the right attitude.
Wondering who you guys think are right role models for younger kids (think about who you'd want your daughter to bring home as their fiancé..) - MaximusAurelius
Scientists. Engineers. People who contribute tangible benefits to humanity as a whole. Athletes should be pretty far down that list, IMO. But, I get what you are saying. On the Lightning, I'd say it would be Stamkos. Seems like a nice guy in IRL, clean cut, positive, knows the right things to say, stays out of trouble. In the past, maybe Lecavalier because of his prolific charity work. The guy dumped a ton of his own money into pediatric medical centers and is still very active in the Tampa area charities.

He wasn't elected, he was a token minority appointee by Trump who got the job because of his loyalty and not any relevant experience or qualifications.
And yes, IMO, adults with imaginary friends who are science deniers shouldn't be allowed to run a hotdog stand.

There's a bit more nuance to my opinion that I don't care to go into right now, but pretty much
I'd never vote for someone with devout religious beliefs if I have the choice |

Yeah, I've been told on these boards a few months back that Anderson = Tavares, so we better look out! |

I'd just like to point out that Ben Carson, someone with medical training, has nothing to do with the COVID-19 response from the federal government.
No, they made him United States Secretary of Housing and Urban Development.

For me it depends on how their religion guides them. Jimmy Carter was a deeply religious born again Christian who is nothing like what we see from those types now. He might not always have been the most effective President but he’s one of the most moral in my lifetime |

Agree 100%. I'd rather not have my surgeon or pilot believing in paradise after death.
And some of these fundamentalist Christians are chomping at the bit to start the apocalypse. They straight up say it openly. That kind of fantastical and delusional thinking should be kept out of positions of power. If my local retail clerk thinks that the Earth is 10,000 years old, flat, and filled with angels and demons, then I don't mind so much. If that same person is carrying around the nuclear football, flying my plane, driving a bus, operating on my heart, then I have a problem with it.
I support spirtuality and individual religious thought, but let's not pretend that letting an imaginary friend guide your life decisions is a sane or good thing in the majority of cases.

Carter is a rare example of a Christian who walks the walk. And the right hates him for it.

Yeah this is the stuff that gets long-winded. But there's people who are guided throughout their lives and seek morals and virtue through religious teachings and then there are missionary types who believe that it's their holy duty to bring everything they touch into closer alignment with their religious beliefs.
The former is fine if someone can separate their public duty from their personally held convictions, the latter is concerning and wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole. |

I guess the criteria isn’t whether or not you’re a devout Christian, Muslim or Satanist. I’ll just go on my bumhole/non-bumhole meter. Lots of bumholes in each of those groups. |
