Hopefully, the nightmare ends when the Isles win the draft lottery.

He said nightmare so the Rangers probably do.

#Isles Lou Lamoriello says Ilya Sorokin is open to playing in the AHL. Hope is, Lou says, AHL can start its 2020-21 season before NHL, which plans to begin on Dec. 1.

That's great, would be awesome to let him get his feet wet

I would think Sorokin not going to the AHL first would be irresponsible the rinks are much bigger in the KHL so it changes the angles and goalies need to adjust. Why is his ELC shorter than Shesty’s? Was it due to draft year?

That's hard to justify, IMO. From what I understand, Sorokin is considered a defected draft choice, so the Islanders rights last virtually forever. All I can figure is Sorokin demanded that sweet deal to come over and took a lower salary to get it. He'll be in payday heaven after playing just 1 year with the Isles. The cap crunch in 21-22 will be unmanageable with Leddys and Boychuks contracts in their final year.

Agreeing to that deal is going to help wreck the Islanders. Try signing Beauvillier, Sorokin, Cizikas and Pelech with NO cap space in 21-22, then have almost $20 million in cap space the following year. What a dumb concession by Lou. He needed to stretch out Sorokins payday by just 1 year. IMO, sign him to a top ECL 2020 thru 2022 for a 900K cap hit, then pay him RFA money.

Lou should hire you to manage the cap. Our team would stink but we would have plenty of cap space.

Could be. Please explain to me how it will work for the Islanders in 2020-2021 and 21-22.

They wont believe you. Everything is fine, they say.

I do think the $8.1 mil cap space is way off. Perhaps they forgot to add in Toews, Barzal and Pulock current salaries. Lou will need to mortgage the future and go the Toronto 'huge signing bonus' route to make it work. Even with that, he'll need to move contracts over the next 2 years, with few picks / AHL options to fill the voids.

- Puckin_Island

Bonuses count against the cap. Actually heavy bonus contracts are worse against the cap as far as getting relief from a buyout so I don’t see why this would help Any team as far as Cap management. Kind of the problem we have with the contract Barf Bag gave to Ladd

This comment shows you don't get it. You think they are "Only" making 5, 6 and 7 million per so it's better than a Matthews or Marner contract. Matthews and Marner are 23 and under. The Isles 3 are 27, 29 and 30. They are all signed to a later age than Tavares will be when his deal ends. And certainly none of the 3 are game breakers. Matthews and Marner are young stars you build around.

Islanders were 21st in GF and are about to spend more on their forwards than the Leafs despite Leafs paying 40 million for 4 forwards. Let that sink in for a second...

Paying a Pageau at 5 million per for years 28 to 34 IS a much worse contract than Paying a Matthews 11.6 per at 22.

This comment shows that YOU don't get it. Paying one player 11.6 million is fine. He is a superstar... offensive player. You could even say paying 2 guys over 10 mill a year for OFFENSE is ok too ... the issue is you spent over $40 mill on 4 forwards who are all offense.. leaving you very little for the rest of your team. Including Defense which is pretty important..fyi.

So the Islanders are smarter to offensively "Spread-out" the cap hits on forwards? Then why are you paying more for a much worse offense and getting outscored by the Leafs on every line? The Islanders are not more "Well-Rounded" at all.

Just as I thought. No answers.

This place needs a "head in the sand" emote. That would be great.

CSKA plays on a Finnish-size rink which is somewhere between an NHL and international sheet. Not as wide as international but wider than NHL. I don't think it's a massive deal and I think Sorokin is talented enough to step in and be OK.

Can't remember why Sorokin's is shorter than Shesterkin's...they were drafted the same year.

I believe the Islander system is better built for the playoffs, but scoring is a problem that needs to be solved or even Sorokin wont help. They need to score a lot more than 5 goals in a series to be successful.

Because they won a round does not prove it. they won 1 more game than the Leafs last year in the playoffs.
