"I’m not trying to be negative here, because Sorokin signing is a win in itself. But if you think the Islanders are in a bad spot with the salary cap now, just wait until they’d have to re-sign Sorokin. It’s not unreasonable to think he could also command somewhere between $4 and $5 million on a short-term deal, just based on what he’s been able to do in the KHL."

Ben's last article on Sorokin ...

Exactly. I'm happy we signed him because I think he'll be great. We'll lose a few regulars this season, (more if Montreal goes crazy on their rumored Barzal offer sheet) but the 2021-22 season will look like a mini rebuild if Lou doesn't move some big $ veterans before then.

It's pro experience, not just NHL. He'll complete his third pro year next season no matter where he plays

I see. KHL is counted then. I didn't think so.

I don't think we will lose any Vets of any significance to the roster imho.

Most of the league will be doing that.

But yeah, I anticipate a lot of roster turnover in the next three years. Think the entire fourth line will be gone when their respective contracts are up. Wouldn't be surprised to see Leddy moved in the offseason. Maybe a Komarov buyout coming too. Something will have to give with Ladd as well...not really sure what though. That deal is 100% buyout-proof.

A few of the Islander contracts are near buyout busts. Spend a ton and gain little cap space. Boychuk and Bailey to name just 2. Leddys salary jumps to $6.5 mil next year and $7 mil in 21-22. Then there are the numerous M-ntc's to deal with. With the age, salaries, injury history, ntc's to deal with, Lou will need to package most of these guys to move them. But with what?

Even Komarov has a m-ntc.
