Well Shaw not on the roster so still on LTIR with concussion issues.

I read that Toronto has Horton and Clarkson finishing their contracts at the end of the season and are looking for LTIR contracts to replace them so they can maneuver around the cap.

I can't see Shaw retiring and leaving 2 x 3.9M on the table. Shaw to Toronto? Get one of those picks back that we traded to Montreal.

I didn't read through the last few pages of comments on the last blog, but there was some confusion about Mitchell burning a year or not.

Recently signed prospect Ian Mitchell, ineligible to appear in the playoffs, was also not included on the roster. The Hawks could’ve elected to burn one of Mitchell’s three entry-level contract years on 2020-21 just to have him practice with the team, like the Wild are seeking to do with Kirill Kaprizov, but decided not to.

So at least that is a good thing.

It seems out of the hands of Mitchell and his representation, and the team's prerogative. He turned pro to be a pro during 20-21 right?

So it didn't come in as a big reason FOR signing and not staying in school, because he felt he liked (was comfortable) the idea of playing in Chicago and was confident they Chicago organization could help getting him there.

But you wonder what goes through a kid's head about the idea, but they also know business is business...

Well not trilled with this early return to hockey ,still believe it would have been wiser to wait a couple more months and try to start the new season on time .
That being said I am a red blooded HAWKS fan and will be interested to see the guy's on the ice . I will also be cheering for the boy's to win every game they can draft position be dammed .
I don't believe this tournament is worthy of a Stanley Cup presentation . If the HAWKS were to pull off the magical tournament run and win the ( Canada )Cup . I would be proud of the guy's . But in my heart it would not be a true Stanley Cup victory .

How would he help the Leaves maneuver around the cap, but not the Hawks?

Lines at camp today, per NBC Sports Chicago:

* Line 1: Alex DeBrincat — Jonathan Toews — Brandon Saad
* Line 2: Alex Nylander — Dylan Strome — Patrick Kane
* Line 3: Dominik Kubalik — Kirby Dach — Drake Caggiula
* Line 4: Ryan Carpenter — David Kampf — Matthew Highmore
*
* Defensemen pairing 1: Duncan Keith — Adam Boqvist
* Defensemen pairing 2: Calvin de Haan — Connor Murphy
* Defensemen pairing 3: Olli Maatta — Slater Koekkoek
* Defensemen pairing 4: Lucas Carlsson — Brent Seabrook

Delia and Subban in net. Crawford is not participating today for reasons that are unclear.

- BDT36

Interesting. For me, I know it's not a huge position, but I wish we had someone other than Highmore on the roster up front.

While he will probably end up a good d-man at some point, I worry about Boqvist being asked to play against the Oilers top guys too much. I can't see him being able to contain Draisaitl or McDavid effectively in this high pressure situation. I'm hoping to be wrong, but it's a tall order for Boqvist IMO. I think the pairs might change as the series goes on, but I think De Haan could end up as an option on the right side (since he can play both) if they opt to bring in Carlsson to possibly get some defending in. I also choose to be optimistic about Seabrook actually gaining some jam back after surgery. He has had a decent amount of recovery time and I could see him bumping the lackluster Koekkoek.

This is just my take anyway. Something like

Keith - De Haan
Carlsson - Murphy
Maatta - Seabrook

Give the second pair the Dzone starts, shelter the third pair a bit. I can't wait to see what actually plays out though.

Don't give up hope yet Duff. We will see how they respond to multiple players testing positive (inside the bubble - or whatever it is called).

I think Mitchell's decision was made for him when college hockey was shut down. Signing with the Hawks was overall a good idea. The only reason I pointed this out was because there was some confusion back and forth about whether Mitchell was actually going to be on the roster or not, thus burning a year of eligibility.

He actually didn't fare too bad when he was up against McD and Draisaitl earlier in the year. If this tournament actually gets off the ground, I think it would behoove all of us to look at this as largely a training exercise or experience grab for the younger players. I'd be happy to see them succeed, but I don't expect much more than some competitive games.

Strome, Dinky and Kane should work but doesn't. When Kane is the best defensive player on a line, you got problems. Tippett won't be able to get McDavid or DrySaddle onto the ice fast enough against that trio.
- Elbows15

Would think he would too, though when the Hawks last played them I think it was Toews line or Kampf's going up against McDavid. Also, hasn't Tippet been splitting those two up much like Q did with 88 and 19.

This is just day one of training camp. This smells to me of lets see if we can jump start ADB, and move past last years slump.

Stan Bowman is talking now but not about Corey Crawford: "We're looking at the guys who are here and ready to play. When Corey's in that group, we can talk about Corey."

And furthering my point...

Corey Crawford is "unfit to play," per Colliton.

He expects Subban, Delia and Lankinen to rotate through first team. "We have a lot of confidence in all three of those guys."

Colliton clarifies that he can't comment, per NHL policies, on Corey Crawford's reason or length of absence.

And now this... I'm done trying to figure this out until anything ACTUALLY happens.

Stan Bowman said he and Ian Mitchell's camp are nearing a decision point on whether to sign him now and burn a year or sign him starting next season. Emphasizes that Mitchell WILL sign, regardless.

Assuming the teams stay relatively healthy enough to play normal rosters throughout, then IMO, any NHL team that wins 4 consecutive 7 game series against other NHL team is a worthy Stanley Cup Champion. If one of the teams from the qualifying round wins it all, it could be argued that it is even more impressive than any other year .

"Unfit to play" could be the approved language for any health issues, including The Vid.

Corey Crawford "unfit to play" right now, per Jeremy Colliton. Remember, teams cannot comment on absences beyond that.

Barring anything unforeseen, I can’t envision a scenario Crawford is rushed back to the ice, especially with games being two weeks away.

Surely this cements a first round loss. I can’t imagine any other goalie on our roster successfully taking over for Crow.
