i don't necessarily agree. i thought the JT signing was a no-brainer. when all it costs you is cap space to bring in a top 5-10 (i'm not looking to get into an argument on where he slots in league wide), you do it.

however, this doesn't mean that i agree with how they've allocated their cap space. they definitely have not managed it well.

i would have signed JT but made other decisions (trades) before the cap got into a funky situation. you can make space to bring in players before the cap becomes an issue.

- RealityChecker

We are similar to the Leafs in that the rebuild went faster than ppl expected. It created the issue of bottom 6 vets being cap road blocks. It’s just a problem JB has to work around.

So will kaprizov/romanov be out for the entire playoffs or just the 5 game series? Is it the same for tree?
- neem55

All are OUT til next season.

hey neemer - I'm trying to figure out if Rathbone has the right to sign with another team/league if he declines his ELC in the next 3 days. Poster Mike says he can - but I cant find any rules stating this. Any ideas on that??

I did find this "The NHL allows teams to draft a player, have them go unsigned and explore opportunities in college as an amateur. That team owns the rights of the player throughout their NCAA eligibility and until 30 days after the player has left college. The amateur can opt to join their NHL team when they seem fit."

to me that means he can sign an amateur contract but not a professional?? I wonder if the "slide rule" would come into effect then also? Or if he officially leaves college then he can sign with a pro league outside the NHL, but we still own his rights until next August.

- Brooks_Light

Ya I don’t think can sign/play in another professional league until our rights have expired. I think you have the right read of it here.

I thought so, but some of the language seemed like they would just miss the opening 5 game series

It was 'leaked' because Matt Sekeres was desperate for attention. No other purpose.

Not all heroes wear capes, some pull cable.

Never have I ever ganged up on Minivan, you've actually piled on him more than me. Dragon is far more elitist than anyone you mentioned. Booner brings it upon himself.I haven't ganged up on Chompsey. I correspond with Nighthawk all the time, some positive and some negative. Kaaptan gets piled on for being racist, but keep supporting him hero. LH just has very, very different views and a bunch of random internet people disagree. Nuck4U? You'll have to search long and hard for any supporter. Jkuzzi and Tiny? You're really reaching.

That brings us to you. Poor Vantel, such a victim. How did this start again? Oh right, you calling someone an idiot.....again. Look in the mirror.

Concussions are a weird thing. Crosby's had a number and is still able to play. Everyone thought Baertschi was done.

Maybe Ferland will be able to continue to play. Let's hope so, for his health, he's past them all. Suppose this training camp will show us.

- NewYorkNuck

Lots of time off helps concussion issues but not all of the time do ppl recover from symptoms popping up. I had reoccurring symptoms pop up 5,10 yrs later. Had none the last 20yrs.

Correct they can't play until next season. Kaprizov is still going to travel with the wild and practice with them during the playoffs though.

honestly, it has felt this way since the absolute beginning. The way the NHL has conducted business in regards to the return, the "bidding" war in regards to the Hub arenas, everything feels mickey mouse to me.

Alright gents, I have a great deal of respect for Carol, she in my opinion is the best writer on this site. I personally do not want to lock down the blog because that will effect her lively hood, but damn this childish bickering is tiresome.

So your choice gents, you continue with your juvenile attacks on each other and I will send Carol a message letting her know why I am shutting things down.

And please don't comment "well he started it" or any other BS excuse to this post

- Makita

Maybe you should have cared before people had enough pf your friends pushing people away from Carols blogs. I could add more names to Vantels list of people who are fed up or have been chased away. She deserves better than that.

Does it seem weird to anybody else that the earliest he could get traded is at the draft, which is tentatively scheduled for October 9–10, 2020. Why would the team leak a Boeser trade rumour for something three months down the road?? Am I taking fawking crazy pills here in seeing that this is the biggest pile of horsesh&t rumour ever constructed?

if we are working for cap space id rather have boeser and ~$2m less in cap space than virtanen. thats assuming some of the contract guesses of 3-3.5m are correct
- johnnykarate

3-3.5m is incorrect. 2.5m at most my guess.

i get your point, and i miss hockey as much as every single one of you guys. I am just thinking about the health and safety of the players, their familes, and the risk of exposure to the community because of a game.

what i do see hope in though, is that modern day science is a marvelous thing. How many people get the Bubonic plague every year and what is the fatality rate today. Look at Polio. We will find a vaccine and things will return to normal, we just need time.

Just one question...

If the NHL with their covid bubble & testing doesn't work how can the outside world keep on ticking as it is? They have it much more confined & measures & the resources given to it

Travis Green says if he had to pick one guy who he was happy with the way he looked to start camp, it would be Brock Boeser. #Canucks

The Canucks must really hate Sekeres

This is exactly what I thought when the rumor surfaced.

Immediately, people on here treated it as fact. Nothing ever changes.

im not quite sure what you mean.

business's are reopening and taking preventative measures that adhere to the provincial health authority guidelines (6 feet social distancing, plexi glass where 6 feet doesn't allow, masks required, sanitizer everywhere, directional aisles, closed booths/outdoor dining/takeout options, "touchless" transactions/deliveries etc). So as businesses re-open, people are doing their parts to keep the curve down. Where it plays different in contact sports is that these rules are essentially broken all over the place due to the nature of the sport. Do we take hitting out of hockey? Do we require players to wear masks? Do we ask for extended benches so players have 6 feet between them? Do they only allow a certain amount of players in the dressing rooms at a time?. It's just hard for me to compare the risks/reward of a game being played with loose restrictions VS giving society their livelihood back by allowing them to go back to work while adhering to the restrictions and preventative measures in place.

I think people treated it as a good hypothetical idea to base a discussion on. There might of been one or two emotional posters who took as fact but they were chased away.

If he doesn't sign is he eligible to play in Europe? Does he need approval from the Canucks?
- Makita

Nothing stops anyone from joining the KHL I believe. There is no working agreement between the NHK/KHL as of now. Last I heard the KHL is trying to lock up players even longer so a Podkolzin 2 year wait would be even longer. He loses NCAA eligibility if goes pro anywhere.
