You would to if your present employer offered a role to keep you relevant. Doubt you would say no because you would feel loyalty to not costing your former employer some restraint on their spending.
- NuckUp

I don’t need to feel relevant to an employer. I get paid regardless. My loyalty or his is irrelevant. Signed a contract & he didn’t fully honour it. He chose to pick sides so eff him & I hope the Panthers remain irrelevant for eternity. He can be relevant to that irrelevancy.

Yes that's what we're pondering. Like sign Petey and QH extensions first to determine what's left for everyone else this off season going forward under a fixed cap.

Could he not have agreed to an office position while on LTIR, did he really need to say (frank) you Vancouver Canucks. Pronged worked for NHL Office while on long term.

Not what the Panthers wanted they needed him off the books at that precise time to have window to snare Panarin. But then the Rangers got a break via the Canucks to clear enough cap room to up their bid and snared him.

Signing a goalie to 10m long term means getting Panarin was not a serious consideration. No goalie is worth 11m especially Bob.

You guys should have listened to Burkie today on Tim and Sid. He basically said you can't have your GM and head scout always arguing. He said it was a good move by Benning to get rid of him but he will be missed.

Scouting is not a one man operation but there will be a hole. They will fill the spot. Ryan Biech is a very good video scout.

I'll rephrase it another way on relevance. Your choice is go home and collect disability for a couple years or get a new role for life with great pay and benefits. You would say no cause your former employer couldn't spend more on their employees?

As a Canuck fan I agree it sucks for us. But it wasn't a choice out of malice and the Panthers motivations were not to screw the Canucks but improve their team on getting Panarin as well.

Not well versed in the long term rules, could Luongo have been deemed not fit to play his career out, like the uniform rash issue?

I wonder what they argued about? Glass over Petey? Podz over USHL guy?

Don't think it really matters although I think it was PodK over someone that Brackett wanted . I think he wanted an American player.

Benning said when they let Brackett go, I come from a scouting background too and the top pick is mine. The second day Brackett was not at the table.

Yeah he had hip problems but from what I read he couldn't go on LTIR during the window the Panthers needed to sign Panarin and Bryz in free agency. The Canucks had the last laugh over getting stung with recapture by helping out the Rangers clear room to sign Panarin away from the Panthers.

What really sucks more is that the NHL during this new CBA amendment to recapture didn't do anything that would help the Canucks and it would help teams like the Wild and Preds instead.

His choice screwed the Canucks needlessly.
Employees wouldn’t get paid more.
They didn’t get Panarin. Russians don’t hang together as package deals. They are no different than anyone else.

Idk how many ways or times I’ve to say this stuff but I’ll end my comments on this now. EFF LUI

He could have easily been put on LTIR but Fla didn't want to they wanted the cap space . They didn't want to dance around shuffling numbers.

C'mon man, that contract was never meant to be played out. If it was there would have been restructuring (in the player's favour) over the last few years.

The real shame about that contract is that after it was approved by league offices it was subject to different rules. If the contract isn't fair, just reject it. Don't punish it later by saying it circumvented league rules, stay ahead of that poop.

The deal would never have been signed, maybe he would have signed a different deal and maybe we would have had to press on with Schneider/FA.

Easy now, i've seen enough minions posts.

Imagine if one was posted every time someone fluffed Benning? My opinion of his body of work has changed somewhat over the past 3 years, but man he still deserves criticism. He also does deserve some praise for his work at the draft table IMO.

- golfingsince

Totally agree but don't tell anyone because I hate everything about this team and usually don't like talking about hockey.
