Not sure why youre worried about the leafs cap? but I would argue that in the current cap crisis it would be of great alleviation for the leafs to be able to trade 1 player and get back 12.5% of the teams cap as well as a decent haul coming back for one of those players and still have 3 superstar forwards

That would depend on what the other team wants and what theyre offering, but an obvious target would be a right handed D.. if youre forced to make a move trade from your strength to help weaknesses

They need better d-men and a good goalie if they can't afford to resign Andersen. They may have to trade one of their big three to try and receive pieces back that could address their weaknesses. This won't be popular but may be necessary.

That is too vague. Fitting in a 10m+ F isn’t easy let alone getting top RHD in any trade. It’s simply rare & highly unlikely. In todays cap world any blockbuster are becoming more rare than rare for any player. I see big contract signings as players being locked up til they expire. Teams commit to core players & add to them.

Well 1st off I didnt say a top D, I just figured since we were discussing being forced to shed some cap everyone would understand that trading a top player for another top player wouldnt make much fiscal sense? That being said if I'm a team and I have a chance to land a superstar for a second tier player +, my bet is every GM is gonna try and make that deal happen
